He also insists blue mage is the best mage and won’t even give black mage a chance, case closed.

What a shitty hill to die on. Complaining that the studio changing the character to an under represented minority reeks of "affirmative action" and yes, racism. Like dude, the issue we are having is that you think studios shouldn't be hiring the best actor/actress for the role if they are non-white otherwise they are pandering.

How exactly do you know she is the best for the role? I wonder how you were there during the audition process lol.

How do you know she isnt better than the original? You haven't even seen her in costume and makeup, let alone singing. Yet you're so confident this is all just pandering.

    Theres a reason for that.

How is this point of view any different from assuming she got the role because she's black?

I don't know, I simply gave my opinion on the information I was provided. She could be the best for all I know. What don't you people understand what an opinion is? It's what the forum is even for, people discussing and giving opinions based on certain information etc. Why does my opinion not seem to be valid, but yours are?

I feel like people are skipping around the discussion just to try and place a label. So you mean to tell me, if you have a character you liked in a cartoon or comic and they suddenly changed their appearance and it doesn't mimic the look of the comic character, you wouldn't have any issue just accepting that character? I mean, why do movies even look for characters who resemble their source material? Is that racist too? Why do they do it? Also, why when its done in the reverse is everyone in an uproar but this is okay? For example, that other person said its okay only because its against white people.

I also had a problem with MJ in Spiderman, only because she doesn't even look like MJ. No red hair, no semblance at all to the character. Yet I left an opinion and moved on with my life lol. I just saw the new movie and still had the opinion, I don't see how it makes me racist.

There's been like 5 pages of discussion. Everything you just asked has been broken down and explained. The answer is almost always "Context".

If a certain trait is vital to the character, it should not be changed. Being white is not vital to the little mermaid, so the race of the new actress doesn't matter at all.

I don't think it can be explained any more simply than that. Random fans personal preference doesn't mean shit since we all have so many different preferences.

And you won't even give her a chance just because she isn't white.

As people have mentioned, this was done with the original source. She was GREEN then Disney changed her to white. You clearly love/prefer that version and claim it was okay to change her. And yet you won't give the same opportunity to this remake.

Give this a chance. If it's terrible, blame the actors/casting and not their skin color.

You may not think you're racist, but your posts are sure coming across as such.

I pretty much hate the entire casting for the Cowboy Bebop movie, its got nothing to do with race lol. I especially don't like who they cast for Vicious, literally nothing about that man reminds me of Vicious.

Disney originally had Chloe Grace Mortez for the role, but she dropped out on her own to reassess her career. The only other name I saw attached was Lindsey Lohan proclaiming she wanted the role.

Real talk, prefer the current mermaid to Lohan.

Lohan 15 years ago maybe, but jesus fuck not current Lohan. What a train wreck that would've been.

What about Johnny Storm. He was suppose to be Sue's brother biologically and because they wanted a controversy they even changed the setting and made them adopted just so they could do it. Is that okay too? The movie bombed, but I didn't like that change either. If it's okay to do, why do people have issues with characters that are white portraying other races.

I don't think it can be explained any more simply than that. Random fans personal preference doesn't mean shit since we all have so many different preferences.
It's all opinions, everyone has one about these films and obviously the studios take them into account. That is why they even do these in the first place, they look for people that resemble their counterparts, its been done for decades. I don't find it racist but obviously they set the precedent by doing it.
And you won't even give her a chance just because she isn't white.
Who said I wasn't? I've watched the other films and didn't like them for many other reasons, I don't think they do good live adaptations of the cartoons, in my opinion. You're acting like I'm starting a crusade or something, I simply gave my opinion of "oh thats kinda lame they keep changing things to create controversy."

You complaining about her not being white because that's the version you know doesn't sound like you're giving her a chance. If you had complained about it being a live action remake (WITHOUT MENTIONING HER SKIN COLOR), that would be a fair complaint. But that's not the route you went with.

So do you think Disney is just pandering or are they being inclusive? Should certain characters look be set in stone?

The red head girl in Stranger things would appease the whites

Hmm, its hard to say because from what I know Nick Fury was originally some white guy. They changed him to Sam L and hes awesome and has been killing the role, but thats a minor character. When it's a live action of a famous character, I think its a little different and should be set in stone. Minor characters I don't see too much issue of doing it to be inclusive. They should definitely look to create characters of other minorities to be more inclusive though, that is way better than changing established ones.

Earth-616 he's white, but in the Ultimate series (Earth-1610), which most of the MCU is based off of, he's black.

Black Johnny Storm was not why that movie bombed.
