Damn, I knew they were making one but didn't think it was releasing so soon. Looking good!

Tracy Morgan and Leslie Jones? The two least funny people on the planet.. I'll Pass. But Wesley Snipes though...

Hopefully the entirety of Leslie Jones is in that trailer.

Leslie Jones is awful but I will not accept any form of Tracy Morgan slander.

So now we know based on the new trailer that Prince Akeem slept with Leslie Jones's character before meeting Lisa but it still does not make any sense because it goes against his character in the first film for him to have a one night stand.

I guess they actually released this a day early. The last half hour or so redeemed it for me because otherwise I didn't think there was much to this. A lot of rehashed stuff for good and bad. I didn't finish up wanting my time back, but I doubt I'd go back to watch it again.

Hope that's the case, since I'm near halfway in thus far and it's been plodding.

[EDIT] And finished. It was ok I guess.
    Spoiler: show
Could not roll my eyes harder at the girl power scene that you know was going to happen an hour in advance. I also don't get the whole patriarchy removal thing if you're not even going to give the future queen more than a minute of screen time and develop her beyond "Is a strong female fighter". Even Tracy Jordan (who was a good fit as the Uncle) that served exclusively comic relief, got more screen time.

    Barbershop shit still the highlight.

I don't know. I like they tried to flip the tables on the fish out of water setup, with it being an outsiders perspective to Zamunda this time around, and that bit worked. Maybe if they cut out 10min from the first hour since that shit was slow going, and used that to developer the daughters some? Oonly thing I can really say about the sequel that it has over the original (assuming my memory of the original is as it was) is an ending that had time to breathe, instead of "Btw we're married and back home and skipping all the oddities of the wife getting used to a new culture, roll credits!"

There's just nothing in this that really compares to Eddie & Arsenio going on their hookup adventures to find the right wife.

I was reading this thread before I started as I forgot about this nearly!

Yeah I don't think I'll rewatch again either unless it's played randomly to me. I did semi enjoy it, but the essence of the film just wasn't there. I came into this film blind (not watched the trailers besides seeing a few pictures) thinking it would be a sort of repeat + rehash of the fish out of the ocean formula, with hints of undercover boss, and commentary of class divide, race, upper and lower class. I got very little of that here. As a result I feel the essence of what made me enjoy the first film was lost on me here. Though I understand we have to move on plot wise and redoing what was done from the first film wouldn't make too much sense, but still...

The film was also disappointingly not based in America either, besides a few minutes at the beginning and the ending.

The funeral scene was odd, I was reminded Master Oogway's passing from Kung Fu Panda for some reason. Wasted character I felt.

The little fight scene at the climax was a little disappointing. I know action's not the focus here, but it reminded me of a Power Rangers fight scene lol. And for a general who had many henchmen under him as shown in various bits through the film, it was a little odd to see him overwhelmed so easily, but as I said earlier it was never the point of the film so I'll let it slide.

    My favorite bits:

    - The scene where Eddie gets kicked out by his wife was great; I wished we had more interactions like this where she wasn't (forced I guess by duty) to act all regal. The awkward reactions by the servants nearby was also good, I so wished we had more of it in general

    - Right after, the scene where Eddie ended up back at the local McDowell's was great, especially when Mr McDowell came in to see the staff all on their knees because Eddie was present, it was great. And the following exchange between McDowell and Eddie was heartwarming. And the McDonald's ribbing was also great and I guess like the first film all these product placements/jokes were allowed/approved/agreed on

Jermaine Fowler, the bastard son, I legit thought it was Will Smith initially on his first scene until he started speaking. I actually burst out laughing thinking "oh this film just got better" but then realised it was not him, but it's ok. He's not too likeable for me but it was all serviceable

I don't know. I like they tried to flip the tables on the fish out of water setup, with it being an outsiders perspective to Zamunda this time around, and that bit worked.
Yeah I sort of enjoyed this segment of the film.

EDIT: The gag/blooper reel at the end was a treat

I wanted more of it, the pacing in this was breakneck. Seems like they just didn't spend enough time on nearly anything.

Finally got a chance to watch this. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I never expected it to be anywhere near as good as the first, but it was a still fun watch. Loved all the throwbacks.

    Spoiler: show
Kind of felt like they forgot Lisa’s from Queens too for the first hour or so lol.
