U.S. Border Crisis: No, You Can't Go Back

I think it's a misread to believe that liberals can/should become more activated/engaged. Liberals are already pretty activated and polling shows they basically hate everything that's happening, but they have been convinced that peaceful political change is impossible / impotent and they don't want to take more extreme measures. Maybe they'll go protest if it's sunny and temperate, but "what for?" is a real question. Activating liberals even more may lead to violence and burning cities down as they turn to nihilism and away from politics, but I don't know that it makes political change more likely. The kind of liberal activists that burn down cities are so rare that they're politically inconsequential (except for their fallout), though.

Depressingly, the reason to have it be a basic white woman is that it would pull the "moderates" over to the liberal side. We have two political parties, but an electorate that's divided into three. Republicans, Democrats, and people who wish everyone would just shut the fuck up about politics. A Native American lesbian liberal political activist is way more complicated and less basic than a "black pepper is spicy" Deborah from Arizona, and, my suspicion is, the less basic you are the harder it is for a person who can't form strong political opinions in 2026 to identify with you. If it has been a white woman who made a wrong turn and was trying to get out of the way, maybe we'd get some basic Deborahs, Nancys, and Jeffs turning purple states blue and some red states purple (very eventually). Maybe it would even color the their perception of the likely violence that we're going to see in the next few weeks.

There's a reason that MLK pointed out that the white moderate (your basic american) was a greater impediment to civil rights than the KKK. (link, control F for "I must make two honest confessions to you") People that are doing alright are always going to pull for the status quo and are going to be a pretty heavy weight against the kind of change that we actually need.

There's still plenty of questions for why her car was in that position and what that other stopped car to her right was doing but she 100% tried to leave before the earlier speeding car cut her off then she tried to wave the other vehicle before ICE came slinging their little dicks.
