don't Democrats automatically win the next election by simply saying "we are going to send every ice agent involved in this shit to prison for 20 years"?

Probably, but they would never actually do it so
The Dems just wanna fund ICE more and make them wear body cams. You'd think it'd be an easy fucking slam dunk, but I think it's time we realize all these centrists were just republicans afraid to put on the jersey and they have zero interest in helping the common man.
ICE sentiments have reached a point where anything other than abolition at the bare minimum would be an epic loser for the Dems. If they campaigned on anything less, enjoy your shitty turnout and protest abstentions... again.
Especially tough scene for a lot of the Obama era establishment, given they have tons of blood on their own hands and got rightfully raked over the coals for their cooperation with ICE in his admin. I mean, Obama gave Tom Homan an excellence award. For his leadership. Of ICE.
I don't think a lot of you realize how much bipartisan support hating illegal immigration has. Some of the most liberal people I've ever known would go hard right when the subject came up.

What? You mean people are racists against others? Even the ones who claim to be good, honest folk? In my human species?
Heaven forfend, what a world.
People just don't want to accept that Bill Maher types represent an astonishingly large part of the dem voter base.

All that really tells me is decades of republican propaganda and conditioning worked.
Notice how pretty much any time people reject deportations you get the right accusing them of wanting slave labor instead of A) Considering people should be paid more and B) Employers doing the hiring should actually be the ones targeted for punishment. There is, of course, the reality that many people don't want to do given categories of jobs, but addressing A well enough would succeed in winning some over. You just have to tell the people that think entry level/low skill labor doesn't warrant high pay (or is "for kids") to pound sand. But that's just radical lefty me thinking a 30 hour work week should sufficiently pay folks to live comfortably with relative advances of technology and productivity compared to post-WW2 times.
Frankly, I've been surprised I've actually been seeing leftist sentiment on twitter over the past week, and among that is an old point I've made here is that people simply cannot afford to protest in a way we probably truly need without just resorting to blazing guns. The affordability thing also ties into healthcare, where if you're unfortunate enough to need regular treatments, it gets more difficult to resist for more than a day or two on the weekend.
So, it's not just the checklist of Deplorable traits screwing us over, but good ol' crony capitalism, citizen's united, and all that fun shit you can trace back to Reagan and/or Nixon.
*insert Lyndon B Johnson quote*
"Now the pockets, when you sit down, everything falls out, your money, your knife, everything, so I need at least another inch in the pockets. And another thing - the crotch, down where your nuts hang - is always a little too tight, so when you make them up, give me an inch that I can let out there, uh because they cut me, it's just like riding a wire fence. These are almost, these are the best I've had anywhere in the United States."

Edit, beaten by one minute.
In the most general sense, of course there's much more depth to these points, a common theme I have seen are worries that increased wages would promote inflation. When rebutted with corporate greed, in reigning in predatory pricing, I'm met with infringing on capitalism. There's no winning with the pull yourself up by your boot straps crowd. What is incredibly hypocritical is they're also typically the one's complaining that the nuclear family was able to be raised by one income.
No, I understand that completely. It's not the point.
The point is, ICE and the hardcore anti-immigration crackdown going on right now has reached a point of toxicity with enough of the Democratic base that running on anything other than abolition is political suicide. I already said that, but what I mean is that the Dems that are somewhere in the center to center right (or worse) on immigration aren't going to stay home or vote GOP because of that. But a lot of hard left young people will stay home or write in a candidate in protest if they don't.
Every country requires an immigration/border security agency of some kind... it's just that the states have basically amalgamated theirs with their domestic security agency as well. Which is why and how they have the capabilities that they do. The Canadian immigration can't do a quarter of the shit ICE does.
