i always tell people that anime was one of the few options for sci-fi/fantasy when we were growing up which is what the appeal was. nowadays there's a ton of good to great sci-fi/fantasy movies & tv shows, but that wasn't always the case. 25+ years ago your options were blade runner, james cameron movies, star trek, and star wars and that was basically it.

if you go back and watch akira/ghost in the shell/bebop/evangelion/lain/etc they just aren't as good as they were 20+ years ago. they were great at the time tho 'cause so many animes back then had original concepts that would mind fuck you

bebop/vampire hunter d bloodlust still hold up for me.

And that's your opinion. Most TV shows don't hook me. I used to watch TWD till it went off the rails around S5 or 6. GoT was nothing to write home about but may give it another shot as we only got through the first few episodes of S1. The last T.V. show that had me hooked and anxiously awaiting a new episode every week was Breaking Bad. About the only other show I watch regularly is Archer. Never even got into Doctor Who and other popular tv shows.

i don't mind anime if it is mixed with humor, or just straight up cartoons. i think the naruto/bleach style anime is relatively cringe.

potentially because of the childish elements in these shows that are supposed to be cute/endearing or would be cute/endearing if they were real people and not animated just come off as cringe to me.

Kill La Kill was great. The best things about anime is that they seasons and series aren't long and drawn out. I love those 2 season shows that are over and done with. All loose ends tied up etc. That's something American TV shows need to start adopting is letting TV shows end and not continually renewing them because of ratings because it will start to turn to shit after season 5.

I tried xenogears a few years ago and god damn that game is jrpg as fuck. Do yall have trouble replaying those games? As I've gotten older I just have a real hard time doing it. Only exceptions are the new rereleases for final fantasy where they're adding boosts and stuff that make it bearable.
