Definitely an opinion. And I do want to clarify I don't think it's the only reason.
If I were to make a bet, I'd say social media and home life top the charts by far as to the reason.
But my gut definitely says that NCLB helped with an increase, too.
I see more and more students with anxiety about grades/passing classes. If a student struggles in school and their gaps in learning gets wider, NCLB has made it so we have to push them even harder to catch up to the rest of the students, which may not be possible at the pace set by CC. Not to mention it caused a huge increase in testing which creates a lot of anxiety for students.
