Current FFXI is way better -today-

Because today no one has the time or ability to organize 20+ people to be around at the same time for hours on end.

Classic FFXI was way better -then-

Because we made a ton of good friends and were constantly rewarded by that false sense of accomplishment that came from grinding through video game content.

I could never go back to even Adoulin-era FFXI but I sure had fun with it at the time.

I think the main problem people on this forum can't get over is HNMs, nothing back then took 20+ people, the playerbase was just bigger. The only thing that has changed time wise is there are no longer HNMs. Omen and dynamis d and ambuscade probably take the same time as the usual tasks did back in 2007 if you take HNMs out of the equation so I personally never understand this debate

I'm more curious to see how much back end stuff changes in FFXI or if it would be a matter of just disabling a lot of QoL features and reverting some calculation shit. (I dunno I'm not a programmer)

My LS would definitely roll up on Dynamis with like 45+ people at the beginning.

Same, but I left and then joined an LS that could clear it all with 12-14

If through some glitch in the Matrix 2 million people with an average age between 15-24 decided to start playing FFXI for the first time I'd be all about them starting out with vanilla + Zilart content and getting the updates and expansions we did rolled out say once a year/18 months, minus all the mistakes S-E made over the last however many years.
