I've posted similar thoughts here before on why these ideas are horrible but now that a candidate is saying it do any of the Warren retards have a rebuttal to anything here?
Also Bernie is dying. More reason to pass the baton
All of it?
One, what's the outsider candidate supposed to say? "Oh no all my more popular opponents ideas are right on the money, definitely pay attention to them."
Two, capital flight etc., the whole prospect of the rich taking their ball and going home if we try to heaven forbid take 2% of 2% of their wealth away is a narrative invented by the rich so that poor people would stop even trying.

Every time one of you posts I realize you don't know what a wealth tax is
idk how anyone could think that this isn't a true statementAnd the bigger problem isn’t even the money. It’s the annual inventorying of their assets. The truly wealthy in this country have zero interest in submitting to an annual audit of all of their assets. They barely know what all their assets are. And the last thing they’re going to do is report them every year and then pay a toll. So you would have massive compliance problems.
We should set up a government department to make sure they do that, some kind of revenue compliance
Because it's qualifying "the rich" and the processes involved in taxing them as if they were single people who mysteriously owned things and not paying teams of people specifically for the purpose of keeping track of all their assets and their worth. I guarantee you Bob Iger might not have any idea where all of his money comes from but there are accountants working for Disney who could give you a complete rundown every quarter.

Yang is my #2 but he's not saying anything in this interview that hasn't been said by an endless parade of rich people explaining why we should stop trying to tax rich people.

Unless the way we investigate and tax assets changes along with the rest of the proposed wealth tax plans, the point still stands. Massive compliance problems.
It costs money to investigate non-compliance and there are limited, and dropping, resources for the IRS. Also the penalties? Laughable. More needs to change than just throwing around a tax on the wealth that people feel like reporting or keeping in-country.
compliance issues.
Poor people are afraid of the IRS because they can't afford the fines and the penalties.
Without sweeping my hand too widely, I'm confident saying that the "uber wealthy" are not.
I agree, but the problems as far as compliance are concerned are not insurmountable nor even ultimately that difficult.

in fact most Euro countries scrapped theirs as it raised so little revenue and was so difficult to administer
now they're European so failure is standard operating procedure but the anecdotes suggest it would not be easy sledding if one were to pursue it in this country.
Maybe so, but a large portion of those difficulties came from governments carving out exemptions for wealthy interests after lobbying, something that Warren also wants to end.
I don't even know if it's what I would do in the same situation, I just know that the difficulties in implementing a wealth tax almost always come from the wealth creating the difficulties and governments eventually bowing to them, not some sort of inherent flaw in the idea like say, the GOP tax cuts.
