I've got a few woodchucks running around my yard, digging under my front porch, shed, one or two of the trees in my backyard, and in the hill next to my house. Someone at work suggested maybe a .22 air rifle. Anyone know anything about them? Seriously considering getting one to deal with these fuckers.

I tried to let my dog chase them, but they're very aware of when we let him out. They're never far from a hole they can dive into.

Can confirm, this works if you enjoy setting bait and waiting for them to come out. Plenty of youtube channels where people use air rifles to hunt pests and small rodents being pests on their yards.

I guess I could set traps, but I was trying to avoid getting traps. I think I mentioned the woodchucks before and Archi said to catch and release elsewhere. One of the farmers on the farm my wife was working for said he'd take them in the traps and get rid of them for us (shoot em). I thought I may just eliminate the middle man.

Plus the air rifle could be fun.

Normally, the closest I get to these things is probably 100 ft. I highly doubt I could accurately throw a water bottle 100 ft.

I could easily shovel them into the woods across the street and leave them for the coyotes to take.

I toyed with the idea of getting vanity plates that nobody but us nerds from FFXI would identify as vanity plates, but never pulled the trigger.

THF 7537 or something like that (my first 75 job). NY plate format is three letters followed by four numbers so it wouldn't even look like a vanity plate. Maybe they wouldn't let me do that then?

I also thought of that, but I'm not sure my wife is ready to have a gun in the house yet, especially with the baby. She's not opposed to guns, her family owns farmland outside Binghamton so her family has always had guns, but it's a little different ina suburban setting.

I'm also not allowed to fire a rifle in the neighborhood. We may have woods across the street and a decent plot of land, but it's still the suburbs. The air rifle will be quiet and take care of the job.
