Yeah it was 96. I was in 2nd grade I think. The snow was taller than I was. My dad shoveled a path to the igloo I had built the night before so we had an awesome snow fort.

Floyd was 99. SO I mean if you count Sandy in '12, Irene in '11 the next one was Floyd in '99 that had a significant enough impact for me to remember it.

When part of California splinters off from the big one can we make them separate states to game the Senate?

Looked it up and it was not as much snow as I remembered it being. Says 24-36 inches depending on location.

Seemed like so much more to me when I was little.

We were jumping out of our buddies second story fire escape into snow. Feels like it was a lot more than that.

Rockland County (where I grew up) we got 27 inches in 96.

This is from a more recent article, but the record is from the blizzard.
coming up just short of Rockland County's record of 27 inches recorded in Suffern on Jan. 8, 1996, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

In 2002 or 2003 Albany didn't have a single blizzard I remember so much as a continuous string of snowstorms that dropped 1-3 inches at a time, every other day. It felt like we got over 6 feet of cumulative snow that year, classes were canceled not once.

Yeah, I'll take the random earthquakes and being in a state perpetually on fire over hurricanes, tornado's and snow storms any day of the week.

About a year ago was the first time in my life I've been anywhere near a tornado. Passed through a very short area like 10 miles south of my house.

Actually it passed behind my vet which was the only reason I knew it happened. Went to take the dogs in and they were like "we don't have phone lines or internet so we'll invoice you later."

you cant build to render a hurricane nonthreatening. you can build to hopefully not be destroyed, but no matter what you do it's a huge disruption and always causes wide scale damage. there's no managing a hurricane.
The fuck are you on about? What perfect fucking world do you live in? Some of us needed to take commuter trains, or rely on NYC mta. Come back to me when you've been standing on a high platform buffetted by winds of winter for for 45 minutes plus because a train was cancelled.

God I fucking love New York but I don't miss the winters, not do I miss catching the LIRR daily mid winter.

That said, having two summers a year is some good shit. Can't wait to get sailing under that Australian sun.
