It feels like nothing has happened even though shit like Egyptian gods are real, there’s a total eclipse out of nowhere, the night sky was turned back a few millennia, etc. Even though they’ve spent so long building up the character of Marc/Steven I really don’t care about him (yet).
Thats always going to be the biggest downside in these series for me. They're all set in the Marvel world. "Oh random eclipse? Avenger level threat? Naaah probably nothing" or "Hmm a giant head and hand is coming out of the ocean. Should we check this out? I'm sure its fine."
No Way Home exists and you think the MCU is winding down? And we're a couple weeks away from Dr Strange pulling bookoo bucks.
The TV shows just mean more content then before, and they're clearly trying to branch out a bit with the shows. Still the marvel formula but with a bit more variety and putting focus onto lesser characters.
Uh, yes. We are definitely in the "not much good left better pull out the fan service" phase where story takes a back seat to "what characters do people recognize".
The Eternals and Moon Knight are characters people recognize? The kid Ms Marvel? The Black Knight dude? I know more comic stuff than the average person and I knew nothing about these people other than they existed- and Black Knight, not even that. They definitely aren’t just hopping aboard the explicit fan service hype train. I doubt the whole build up of events will ever equal Infinity War ever again, but to call the MCU on the decline is a severe overstatement.
The MCU has extended to the point where so much stuff is going to be going on- such as an eclipse and stars cycling through a few thousand years is going to happen and going to go unmentioned in other MCU properties just as they have in comics for decades. Will things like a celestial appearing need to be brought up? Yeah. Sure, even if it’s just something like a newspaper article you can see in the background. Most of this stuff so far has been happening and resolving so quickly- just like the Eternals- that even if all the super heroes start to act when the plot is discovered, it’s already too late. I’m going to wager a guess it’s going to be similar to this. What threads are there to follow exactly with the sky changing the way it did when it could have anything to do with anything anywhere? And I don’t think we have a solid timeline on when all this phase 4 stuff is going on right now, aside from Hawkeye and it’s Xmas theme.
Lmao, what a ridiculous take. Marvel films will dominate the box office for years to come. Some of their shit is bad though, like Moon Knight. Cool looking character and a good actor, but wasted it seems. (Why is our main character "losing his powers" when they have hardly even been introduced lol. Maybe I missed them because it kept putting me to sleep.)
I will say that the films need to hurry up and more prominently introduce the new Thanos-level, over-arching villain. If it is really Kang, that is hella lame.
I think it's safe to say I probably read more comics than anyone here and the issue of "why would giant event x happen and the Avengers not show up" can't be serious, right?
I mean one, who even are the Avengers post-Endgame? I don't think that question has been addressed. Cap is retired, Hulk seems inactive, Black Widow is dead, Iron Man is dead, Thor is gone, Hawkeye is passing the torch. Wanda is definitely off the grid, who knows what's happening with the new white Vision, we all saw what happened to Spider-Man - I'm sure Sam Wilson will pull something together, maybe, but right now it doesn't look like the team exists. Also remember that Fury is out in space.
Also, the reasoning for "why didn't the Avengers show up" for stuff like Moon Knight or Eternals seems pretty easy to answer considering THE BIG EVENTS TOOK PLACE IN A MATTER OF MOMENTS.
We saw the entirety of the amount of time Tiamut spent emerging from the ocean. With the exception of Captain Marvel, who could have made it out there that fast from presumably across the globe? How much of the story was already over by the time anyone even knew anything was happening?
Spoiler: show
It could well be that these things are considered Avengers-level events but 1) we don't know if there even are Avengers, and 2) it would be a bigger plot hole if someone did show up to investigate, unless they had an explanation for why they were already in exactly that part of Egypt.
LOL @ shitting on a show only 3 episodes in. Im loving this show and so are my kids.
If by quality you mean questionable sure.
Nah, just didn't check auto correct before I submitted my post.
In general the MCU has used p4 to just put people into the universe and use recognizable characters/situations to push franchises. I like Moon Knight, but my statement was that at this point you need to switch off from how the universe as a whole is affected because we're post-establishment now. There isn't a narrative being constructed in the same token as the first few phases besides multiverse shenanigans and frankly the hype is less centered on the characters and more on LOOK IT'S REED RICHARDS LOOK IT'S KAMALA KHAN LOOK IT'S AMERICA CHAVEZ but the development is not nearly as meticulous as it was before.
What are we building to?
Be honest. While No Way Home was a great movie, would you have like it as much if past villains and Spideys weren't involved?
Saying Moon Knight is dumb because the Egyptian Gods turned back the night sky out Eternals dumb because Tiamat was coming out of the ocean is silly at this point in the movies. It's not about being connected anymore.
That's why I said the MCU is not going on a streak anymore. There's nowhere else to go other than LOOK WOLVERINE IS HERE like they're speculating already.
Y'all are buying into hype instead of the story.
But nobody knows who Kamala Khan is, so showing her off isn't exciting, having a decent story is.
And obviously we are building towards a Kang/Multiverse problem. Kang was built up a ton in Loki, and his "See you soon" was ominous as fuck. Multiverse has been built up or referenced in Loki, Wanavision, Spiderman, and Obviously Dr Strange. Thats a huge story they are building.
The two other threads we have are Cosmic shit and Gods, we now have egyptian and Greek Gods (as of today's Thor trailer), along with the eternals dealing with celestials and shit. And we have our more... human super heros. Cap, Winter soldier, Hawkeye, and they all dealing with building up the next generation of avengers, and possibly fighting a dark avengers (or thunderbolts or w/e they are gonna be called) team.
If anything, the problem is we have too many threads we are building up at once, not that we don't have any.
All I’ve ever expected from a comic movie/show is fun.
This is fun, awkward, etc in the right amounts.

I will continue to think everything from here on out is building toward Secret Wars.
