I used the Magitek Armor to do one of those times quests and it gave me like 100,000 XP, and then I stayed in a hotel with a 2x modifier.

Level doesn't seem to mean all that much though, gear is more important.

it's good but it's not all that close, Paper Mario was hella dumbed down by comparison and it's not like SMRPG was complex.
