Time for FFXI "Classic"?

HNMLS were you had to apply, trial, and be accepted then maintain sufficient status to be eligible for your items created a much deeper social interaction than letting everyone low man everything in Abyssea or shoutgroup everything else post-Abyssea.



Well a bunch of you did exactly that about the HNMLS system and you eventually got shit ruined



I'm one of those people who had to jump around a few shells and servers for over a year before getting my Hecatomb Cap and Subligar.

The system worked.

The problem I encountered was never establishing reputation to be lot eligible (or, to be more realistic, getting DKP priority since most shells moved towards that and most probationary periods lasted 2-3 weeks at most), it was the item scarcity outlasting the Linkshell lifetime. When I finally sucked it up and leveled WHM to get into an actual power shell, and not just trying to join whatever shell would accept a DPS or tank at the time, I easily topped the DKP charts for the shell and easily won lots on my items. Hell, I only got my Defending Ring because panda didn't want to let the only main tank (a very recently off-trial member) have it

I can tell you that on my journey, all the people in shells that already had items were the core players who would be on all the time and could be summoned to events as necessary. All the have-nots complaining about not having a chance at items (ShepardG) were infrequent attendees and just there to vacuum up whatever they could.





Nah there's everything wrong with that. This shit was stupid, and I say that as someone who got a Relic funded by selling King items.

You want a Ridill? Your ass should be in the pit. Not just to pay someone for it, but every day to earn the DKP for it. And you should have the gear and skill not to be a burden and kicked before your turn comes up. Otherwise, I'd rather give it to the person who only plays mage jobs in the HNMLS.

Not everyone should get every item. Your progression should be limited by your ability to do the content required to get the item, including competing with other Linkshells and your Linkshell peers.

This is the point of the EX tag. You have to acquire the item yourself. People can pay mercs for items through the AH.

Too lazy to edit, but to your point about keeping king items in shell, etc, we were capped on almost everything but kept the monopoly on them to fund relics and RMT off overflow gil.

So it was either sell them, or let them hit the floor.

And yes, we were dbags for still hoarding everything. By that time we had already run almost everyone away from camps. There were soooooooooooo many times in DA it was just us, 1 other LS, and then buyers.

I made many of the same sacrifices for my character that a parent would make for a child: getting up in the middle of the night (to camp vs. feed/change diapers), staying in (to do events vs. watch the child), putting up with a lot of bullshit to get into a prestigious organization...

And just like parenthood it was countless wasted hours!

If I had the time I'd for sure play the shit out of this game with Gred. I'd show up every night knowing I'm not gonna get frustrated or upset cause the dude isn't gonna hold us back.

But I don't have the time anymore, and what time I do have I find enjoyment more from playing with my friends with fun mechanics, than the high I get from getting that super special item.

I'm just past that point in my life but if you aren't, then I totally get where Gred is coming from. Once upon a time my RDM was my baby too.

I think it depends on the game. I played male characters in FFXI for 10 years because the models look decent. But in many modern games it seems like devs focus more on female models and that's what cosmetic items are aimed at.

Yes. I'll just use the last there as an example. 1st Image in Windurst Harbor says "existing," meaning how it used to look. The next image below it says "amendment," so that one is basically saying this is how the changes to "existing" will now look. Bottom right picture says "placement note image." Not too sure on the verbiage choice, but it's like a bird's eye view or an aerial view.

I hadn't thought of that, some words can mean more than 1 thing given context, so layout reference image makes more sense for that last one.

the guy is making mock ups. whenever u see comparison images, the top image is the state of the game and the bottom is his mockup. the images are all dated late 2018. some of them look like in-engine edits, others look like photoshop.

almost everything from the delkfutt's tower pic is from the current game. they're just highlighting all the details required to design it to match the original's feel.

btw, this is all legit because Nexon has DMCA'd most places which first posted the images, ie. they are saying it is their copyright
