SE says no more new accounts can be created on Asura, gold world passes will not work to transfer to Asura. High population was causing server congestion issues.
I would love to believe it's because too many people are coming and playing XI now but I doubt it. Congestion issue was likely caused by them making 100 plaudits from Vana'bout come from taking 75,000 damage in Ambuscade, causing people to go into the instance and just let the monsters smack them for 20 minutes straight. The wait to get in skyrocketed from 5-8 minutes to 45+.
People were already doing that. They just weren't doing it while all trying to do the same content at once and then spending as much time in that content as is allowed.
The 2nd FFXI themed raid in XIV was previewed today, it’s based on San d’Oria and looks like it includes XIV’s first usage of XI’s Orc character models, and boss fights against Kirin, the Zilart Brothers, XI’s version of Ultima and Omega, and a mystery boss yet to be revealed.
I've set a few goals for myself that have nothing to do with gear progression, and I'm gonna use those as my benchmarks for being "done" with the game.
1) Learn every spell, including songs, Geomancy, and Blue Magic.
2) Complete every mission and quest in the game, excepting Magian Trials
3) Get every Trust
Almost done with the 3rd goal, last hurdle is Ygnas. Need to take the time to do the add-on scenarios and start/finish The Voracious Resurgence as well and I'll be done with all missions. Want to do Odin 12 times first so I can get the bonus Luzaf dialogue during that part.
Also going to add getting the highest campaign medal available, I think I'm 4 away right now.
Haven't played since 2019 or so and I'm kind of feeling an urge to start on a new account and just solo DRG to 75 and see what I can do. Aside from generally raised exp thresholds (although it shouldn't be too excessive without RoV started, hopefully), what QoL changes and changes in general am I forgetting about that would render this unfeasible? Mostly concerned about how many OG exp camps are still viable and haven't been drowned in Apex mobs.
I know you can do the original EXP zone progression- starting zone -> Valkurm -> Qufim -> Elshimo and not run into anything new, and I want to say the parts of Crawler's Nest and Garlaige used for EXP through level 50 are also clear. After that I don't know, you can go to Escha-Zi'Tah and get to 75 in an hour or two at that point.
The biggest time gate is stopping to do limit break quests on a fresh account. But assuming you have that done already, you can go 1-99 in a few hours.
Yeah, that's kind of what I want to avoid; I really just want to take a leisurely stroll to 75 while soloing on DRG without trusts, stay there, farm some gear, craft, maybe have some fun soloing stuff from back then. Mostly a nostalgia trip to get my mind off other things, but that kind of goes out of the window when even base EXP rates are so broken that I'd just bust through the zones, hence my concern about that.
Edit: 200 EXP base for EM, Jesus. That is a lot, but guess it's manageable.
Possibly, yep. For what it's worth, I did play on Horizon for a few weeks and it definitely was a nice experience, even when disregarding all the drama (or maybe because of it), but overall, private servers aren't exactly my thing.
Think I'll just give it a try and see how it feels on retail, thanks for the input either way!
I think my interest is cratering again. I'm close to 100% on the Mog Garden, I just need a few more monster mementos and I'll have everything. I'll gut it out for that, but I'm tired of not having anyone to play with.
