I never finished Skyward Sword. Maybe one day if they re-release it without the waggle controls.

The main part of BOTW (story, Beast dungeons, Beast fights, general world design) was pretty good. But a lot of the potential playable hours were locked into shrine hunting in the furthest corners of the map which got boring real fast.

Motion controls for the Wii is why I haven't opened up my collector's of Skyward Sword and why I never finished Twilight Princess either.

The beast dungeons sucked too. Terribly short and not challenging. The boss fights themselves were good tho. Go ahead and keep your 120 shrines nintendo, give me 8ish actual, bona fide dungeons next time.

The boss fights in BotW were all fucking terrible lol. All four of them was essentially the same shit with zero originality.

Outside of weapon durability being trash even with the master sword. I liked the weather system for health but the world felt so flat. I understand it’s years after a cataclysm but I shouldn’t be running everywhere and only see enemies every once in awhile

Not true, Horizon is open world and dense.

The divine beasts were ok. Nothing phenomenal per se. However the shrines were A+.
IMHO Zelda games are about three things, exploration, puzzles and combat that feels good. BoTW provides all that in spades. There's a constant sense of "what's over there" that hasn't really been replicated since OoT. I'm not sure how I feel about the lack of full dungeons, but I really fucking like the bite sized nature of shrines. You clear them just before they start getting frustrating, which can be an issue with full on dungeons, especially with pleb players.
There's a very nice loop of shrines being your reward for exploration and the completion of the shrine being its own reward.
It can be tedious if you're the kind that loves to 100% games without any guides.

Everyone goes on about the weapon durability system, but man considering the arsenal you have and the way you interact with the game's sandbox, there's no shortage of ways to beat enemies quickly. Shield durability only matters for surfing, since you can parry with the worst shield.
Lynel combat was fun, but I wish enemies parried and dodged too

It is dense with trees, grass. What you mean is it has more combat encounters based on the world size. What BoTW does more of is visual storytelling, especially if you've played previous games.

I love horizon, but man, at some point I couldn't wait to actually finish the game and not touch it again.

Next time I play, I'll probably drop the difficulty level.

The biggest problem with horizon is you eventually turn it into skyrim, sneak bowing everything because it's the most fuss free way to do anything.
