Don't listen to this. Lay on your couch under a blanket with arms positioned however you want. If you're sitting straight up, pro controller could be better. If you're ultra-lounging though, those controllers are A+.

The Hori Split Pad Pro or the grips are needed for many people to enjoy handheld mode. You're a freak or a kid or unable to objectively acknowledge ergonomic shortcomings if you think handheld is less than shit. The Satisfye grip and the Skull and Co grips both help immensely with joycon comfort.

Outside of the pricey Pro Controller, the Hori wired controller and the PowerA wired controller are cheap and decent options. Even 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ is a solid choice if you're fine with its inability to wake the Switch, a fair cost to some for its superior d-pad.
