Ambuscade has been out for a long time my friend, its been out at least 4-5 years.. maybe even longer. ive been playing since 2004, and maybe i do have Nostalgia goggles, but if Abyssea was so good, explain why FFXI retail lost 75% or more of its population right after Abyssea came out? explain why Private servers have a bigger population than Retail? the figures speak for themselves my friend. yes ppl go back to retail but more ppl play Private servers to play old content because it is more enjoyable. So like i said before, if you prefer Retail... play retail.. but respect other ppl's preferences and opinions.

Sure, but what different does a curebot make? Its cheating, which was the point you were making and you even went as far as to mention multi boxing. People are cheating on every single video game, its inevitable. That does not diminish the fun you are having in a content on any game unless they are actively blocking you from participating or progressing.,

That is my whole point! XP was a damn chore, its literally some of the only content these people are doing on that server yet they claim its "fun" The guys stream was him hitting rabbits in Ronfaure for literally 3 hours!?

I agree with some of what you're saying Draylo, but you need to chill a bit. I highly doubt anyone playing on this server (or any other) is really doing it in lieu of playing retail, so it's really not harming anything. If people are having fun playing it, then let them have their fun.

The server populations DID poof after Abyssea because there was no artificial rarity. Without large server-side time gates where HNMLS were able to cock-block each other (and exclude the majority of the player base) everyone literally maxed out and quit because there was nothing to do. People all had AF3+2, mythics, maxed merits, etc. etc.

Abyssea saw a population increase, because all the people who quit because they couldn't "get anywhere" before came back... then they left. Along with all us no-lifers that SE betrayed.

MMOs are a skinner box. Skinner boxes stop working when the rats learn they can get the cheese easily.

The guy literally was talking about the event being a team effort with raises and stuff, and you claimed it’s the same in retail. My difference has nothing to do with cheating and everything to do with retail having “18” people do something which is really 6 people on 3 accounts each.

Yeah but thats not true, especially during walk of echos. When that first came out everyone was doing it and it was fun actually. I remember complaining because people who were dummies would literally sit with an avatar out doing nothing and then dying, and the skeletons would absorb all the HP.



Domain invasion was done by real people too, tons of people still do it every day. Ive seen a lot of shouts asking for help as the HNM dragon spawned because its harder than most. People raise each other and heal each other and their trusts hit everyone. Also SE had to nerf it recently because someone kept greifing by going behind it and hitting everyone with spike flail. These things all still happen, your doomsday view of retail just isnt factual. I know most of us are literally saturated in bots and cheats now, because sadly that has become the norm. The whole point is that content is still there for anyone to do and you can get the same feeling on a populated server. The pops go down and up, but of course when content drip is so slow people get burnt out and quit and leads to more dependency on multi boxing.

They didn't poof, use some logic. Why would people, literally 75% of the pop as he claims, quit when something is brand new? The pops went down because we were stagnate, killing the same tired NMs in sky/sea/dynamis over and over. I remember how bored people were before Abyssea to the point everyone was looking forward to leaving for XIV, which was also what caused a population drop. I remember those times very vividly.

No they just write retail off as dead, and its boggles my mind the excuses they use which is what I'm talking about. Debating these people, 70% of them still think we are in Abyssea, 10% are weirdos with HNM hard ons and 20% of them are mad their gear is outdated. There is literally no other reason to dislike retail when we still have all the same content including horrible XP grinds.

There was plenty to do in XI.

What you mean to say is that there wasn't enough to do that people were in the correct social circles for (i.e. HNMLS) that also gave BIS rewards.

There was so much content in XI that no one participated in because the rewards were shit. That's why everyone who talks about "the experience" is full of shit. We were chasing shiny pixels. And that's precisely why 75 cap was best -- it limited the acquisition of shiny pixels.

I wonder if Ninja got paid to stream Horizon a few days ago. He only plays on private XI servers pre-Abyssea afaik.

No there wasn't, we are talking just before Abyssea. HNMs at that time were largely irrelevant. Most of the abjurations could be obtained through other means or bought from mercs at that time period. The content systems they were coming out with were boring and lame as hell. Remember those dumb battles in the past that gave you like +10MP on your gear . WOTG had spans of 6~8 months between updates and not much to do. People were bored out of their minds. Sandworm/Ixion were largely irrelevant and the rewards not sought after. I literally know this game like the back of my hand, including that era. HNM towards the end of 75 era were relegated to irrelevant except people that wanted to keep that crap alive. The gear was largely not needed to participate in literally anything else.

This is precisely the reason why artificial rarity is good. It stretches content and makes the barrier for pixels other players, rather than just the context.

I assure you CurePlease works and is most likely being used. Most things current to retail are working due to tools. It is very unlikely someone got a fucking Lu Shang's legitimately in 4 days, either.

I don't know why people kid themselves. The game takes forever to play through and people aren't 15 with no responsibilities anymore. They can ban whoever they want, but the tools exist to cheat and people are going to use them.

You are definitely crazy bro, people are coming out of the woodwork playing and streaming this game because they are excited for it, there's really nothing more to it than that. I like retail for what it is but you have to understand there is a substantial amount of people who do not and just like the idea of getting their nostalgia fix from the game and experience they once loved.
