No craziness, I enjoy retail thanks and dont care what they do there. I just find debates fun sometimes and they are pulling things out of their ass.

It's just a case of right place and right time. It was a big enough launch in the private server community alone thanks to silly drama with the previous biggest pserver and then the constant updates and hyping they've done for the last half a year has made word of mouth spread to a whole lot of people who hadn't touched or even heard of XI private servers before.

The Tsunami harmed the FFXI population more than Abyssea. SE was forced to shut down servers because everything was hosted in Japan, and Japan govt forced SE to shut down the servers for 2-3 months. The addicted playerbase were forced to get their gaming fix elsewhere, and were weeded off FFXI.

SE hosts servers for XIV in JP, EU and NA because of that incident.

I assure you CurePlease works and is most likely being used. Most things current to retail are working due to tools. It is very unlikely someone got a fucking Lu Shang's legitimately in 4 days, either.

I don't know why people kid themselves. The game takes forever to play through and people aren't 15 with no responsibilities anymore. They can ban whoever they want, but the tools exist to cheat and people are going to use them.

Of course it works, and I am sure there are a few doing it. But thinking it’s as widespread as retail is naive. Why? Because this is the honeymoon period where many are enjoying the nostalgia of it all. Many people who like mages are actually having to lvl their mages. Cure botting is due to not enough people actually want to play healer because the novelty of it is severely passed its prime for retail players.


Will it get that way eventually on Horizon? Probably. But again I don’t care about the future state. I care about what it’s like now because I’m playing it now.

For a game I spent literal years playing in terms of actual hours played, I find myself with no nostalgia for it. I have good memories and bad and they're all in the past now.

I have nostalgia for being a kid and playing and I remember fondly how much fun I had. It really was going to a different world sometimes and def helped me thru a lot of rough patches too. I have so many memories of the game through each era of it. I wouldn't ever want to go back though, not even just to see how it was. I remember the content itself and can set my nostalgia aside to see if its worth my time, and def not lol. I can't imagine an adult that can devote that much time that it used to require and still be successful. I honestly have no idea how some did it back in the day when we had a lot of 30+ yr old ppl playing. Something that made me laugh not that long ago, people were complaining about retail saying theres too much to do and theres so many dailies we have to do or they will have "fear of missing out." I just had to laugh... a two decade old game and people have fear of missing out on what? Then I remember back in the day the weekly schedules everyone had. Each day was a different ToD to camp, Dynamis, Limbus, Salvage, EXP parties, merits, recapping xp to not delvl, the list goes on and on. IDK how some of them did it while having to forcefully deal with 18+ people or waiting to LFG etc.

The outpost treant event was around when NA got access to XI, just sayin.

Yeah it was the very first event I remember when I started the game. Going to Ronfaure to get bodied as a noob ass RDM was awesome lol.

2 weeks sounds more familiar, i am pretty sure the shut down was delayed though as i remember seeing 4 fafnirs in 1 day because of constant resets early on when it was happening
