ffxi was great solely because it sucked just the right amount in the right ways which forced a community and level of fun and toxicity that couldn't exist anywhere else

All through the years I've heard people wish for x or y and this dev team has eventually made it happen. Years ago wishing we could fight alongside NPCs from missions, years ago wishing we could summon things like Odin or Alexander. Years ago wishing we could deal more damage or reach lv99 and get spells like Meteor etc. All of that stuff happened, each era of XI has come with changes and really nice content. The fact yall missed out on all of that to wish to sit and camp fafnir... is unimaginable to me lol.

All the happiness I ever got playing FFXI stemmed from the people I was playing it with. The game itself was nothing but frustrating and tedious.

FFXI was a social game because you're not smashing a button every 1.5 seconds to maximize DPS. When you consider it was a game prior to the widespread use of voice chat (who remembers renting out their first TS/Vent server,) typing out messages is all we had.

Or talking shit to each other on Bluegartr dot com. Or theorderls or whatever the hell it was back before WoW dropped a nuke on the forums.

I don't care for those games. So XI is better than them. Doesn't mean it's the best ever, but fuck RD2 or GoW.

Nope FFXI is still alive, and still profitable. I find it so sad people can dislike the real XI so much, it is a lot of fun and a work of pure art. Def best game ever.

FFXI, like Ultima Online, is among the worst MMORPGs ever created. But because it was created so poorly the social aspect of the game was enhanced 10x more than your average MMO.

Sitting around a zone for 3 hours with 100 other people waiting for a mob to pop, only to kill it within 5 minutes, isn't even playing a video game. It's a fucking chat room. Even leveling didn't require much button pushing, everything is auto-attack... so all you did was talk with people while playing.

The game was a chat room with moveable avatars.

I think this is a fair assessment. It’s funny. I was afraid to go to Horizon because I figured I wouldn’t have the time. I’m finding out in some respects it works out better for me than ff14 due to the lack of button smashing. When I lvled blm sub I was able to make dinner at the same time by blowing all my np at the start then resting/cooking while waiting for the next mob. Today I’m going to fish and clean my house.

It does hurt a little to ge a casual player when I was an hnm player back in the day, but at least I’m still able to multitask.

I was part of the linkshells very first Kirin kill and everything past that until it withered on the vine around the time Burning Crusade came out, and I don't remember you.

Yep, where you there towards the end when it reformed into a new linkshell? They named it after a BLU ability, but I can't remember the name. I was with them a while before that name change and then left, then tried it once more with another LS after finally giving up on HNM because I hated it. I have literally done everything in this game and am probably one of the oldest long time players out there, so no idea why you think its not possible. "Degen" for liking a game, lol.

If you're asking if I was in KtD you were clearly never an actual member of the linkshell when it was engaged in endgame activities.
