But if you didn't get the fucking thrill of outclaiming another LS and then fighting an actually tough monster and getting the thing you wanted or seeing someone you were friends with get the thing they wanted, you shouldn't have been in an HNMLS in the first place; you should have been playing BST.

I loved playing the game but back then I was a purist who hated bots. It was no secret every single LS that got claims was botting. I also hated waiting for windows or being forced to drop what I was doing to run and camp before a pop window. It was not for me as I didn't find it fun and the general people Around it were toxic. I found other content way more fun and there was plenty of pvp in camping other nms like moldavite earring lol

Nope, there was plenty to do each expansion before Abyssea that didn't include HNM lol.
Dynamis, Limbus, Einherjar, Odin, Salvage, Nyzul the list goes on and on. I did it all, the game stopped revolving around HNM after TOAU came out lol. Hydra/Cerb/Khim were busts and so was most of the WOTG ones like sandworm/ixion.

Khim and Cerb were not busts, what? We made crazy money off of their mats, not to mention Hauteclaire as a drop for PLD and Algol for DRK.

Yeah they were marginally better at the time than easier options, nothing spectacular. Most skipped them outside of making some gil, which was better done elsewhere with a big crew

This is wholly false. Hauteclaire was the number one enmity weapon for PLDs during the Khimaira period. Algol's triple attack alone put it outside anything else for DRK in terms of Great Sword options. This was years before Ragnarok became a viable relic. And again, millions of gil from their hides. And yeah Cerb Mantle had + Enmity, which at the time was really the only stat that mattered for a PLD. Getting some Haste/Shield Skill/HP was nice but never at the cost of losing Enmity

Sandworm and Ixion were genuinely the most fun endgame parts of wotg, I used to cannonball the fuck out of Ixion and sandworm was fun cause of the random factor of what you might fight after being sucked up
Cerb was where you knew if your blms could do more than stand there and nuke because they had to watch Gates of Hades spam, Khim was a fucking blast just running to spawn thru all the Soulflayers and Imps it was the most epic hide and seek ever
