People may not like his racist policies, but it is a lower level of importance than something like abortion. You may not like that they put that at a lower level, but I wouldn't say that makes them racist. (Keep in mind many women and minorities are pro-life, too, and that may be why they side with Trump.)

It's funny because we just had Salodin a few pages back pointing out you can never find a candidate that gives you 100% what you want for the dems, and now you have fiye thinking if someone supports Trump that means they support 100% of his policies.
Okay here's the deal. People might act like they're single issue voters but they fucking aren't. Shit is connected and related especially when it comes to the Abortion issue. If people reallyw anted less abortions and they wanted to accomplish that objective they'd make contraceptives more readily available, over the counter, and provided by most health care plans (Preferrably in my perfect authoritan left world it'd be provided to you via medicare for all subsidized by Jeff Bezo's taxes). We'd have sex education in schools to teach what the fuck actually happens when you get in on and the risks associated and how to properly protect yourself with a demonstration that doesn't involve a sock and your teacher's hand.

But this is not how the way things are run. The people who are anti-abortion are (usually) extremely religious. And these extremely religious people tend to have other sets of core beliefs that usually fall in line with the currently republican quo. They'll fall for a billionaire from new york who cites the 'Two Corinthians' as his favorite part of the bible. Where one of my favorite most recent videos is a christian man blowing the shofar as he signs off a podcast way out of line. The shit had gone beyond G.W. levels of parody to the point that even Kanye is now getting on that grift.

I got a first hand seat to how people got on board the Trump train on the USS Enterprise. My chief (The same who recently committed suicide) went from Scott Walker, to Ted Cruz, to accepting Trump. A really fucking good friend of mine who I spent two days wandering fucking Rome with proudly displayed his authentic MAGA hat in the family room after the election. I want to say people fucking changed during that election cycle but a part of me honest believes that people let a worser part of their come crawling out after that.

I don't know. I know I was in a deep shitty mood yesterday and for that I do apologize for snapping like that Gaditaran. Still tilted that you just come in here and lecture a bunch of people when its like hey maybe look at the last 3 years of policies. Maybe take a look at the judges being appointed.

Also to add one more thing in regards to Ksan's post. A lot of other republicans in that 2016 were also pretty anti abortion. Its just kind of weird the one who said mexicans were bringing crimes, were rapists and criminals across the border won the primary with a plurality.

Sadly, no. I really don't see any shift in thinking over the past 20yrs I've been old enough and cared enough to pay attention.

You can go back to the 60s and see pretty much the same divide.

There's more open discussion coutesy of dah interwebs, but not much to back it.

People like to be in the "right," side in conversation and in small moments, but then they go home and do nothing to change it. The overwhelming majority probably aren't even aware of it.

I can't fault anyone for it either. I'm just as guilty, particularly since my daughter was born. It's human nature. Survival extended to the happiness of our selves and those closest to us. What's in front of our faces.

Well it's hard. It's definitely a paradox. You have to be selfish enough to be successful and stable, putting yourself in a position to influence change on a greater scale. But then certain people will scream hypocrite.

Sure, maybe, but you're assuming the only questionable thing the person did was vote for a racist. In the year 2019, after all we've seen, if you're still voting for trump then well, maybe YOU dont think you're racist, but many people around you might be questioning how hard of a racist you are.

You seem to be under the assumption that there are people who dont consider race (or not consider it enough), negatively or positively, and therefore they are not racist. I couldnt disagree more. Just cause people close their eyes and try to pretend they dont see race, doesnt mean they're not racist, and infact I'd say it makes them more likely to be racist/do racist things. You cant be ignorant to racism in america and think you're somehow navigating american life as the countries least racist person. That's just not how it works.

Not all racism is the insidious hood wearing kind. Some of it is as simple as voting for someone you KNOW is racist, and KNOW will sign laws that will negatively affect colored people in america.

Hes campaigned on it. Only problem his is hardest rhetoric is thrown at muslims, and if I cant get yall to care more about blacks then for sure yall ain't gonna give a fuck about the muslims.

Note: I did not vote for Trump nor am I rebublican to clarify. I think he's an utter shit stick and can't even watch him speak and have to read transcripts so I won't vomit.

With that being said, if if a person believes abortion is the murder of babies (I do not, but the reality is a lot of people do), then that's a pretty fucking big deal.

I also want to be clear in saying that I am not saying Trump voters aren't racists. A lot of them are. I am just saying that supporting Trump is not enough evidence to automatically claim they are racist.

I would want to see their reasoning for supporting him, and like you said, what other policies to said people vote for.

Something tells me that, even if I didnt label that person a racist, if instead we said they're a racist sympathizer who also likes doing racist things, youd still find trouble with that.

Cause that's what you're complaining about. That somehow people can do racist things and not be racist. And like, maybe that's true, but the distinction doesnt really matter, does it?

Like, if someone said I'm going to bring slavery back, and people voted for him, would you not call the candidate, and voter, a racist?

I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but you keep trying to divorce the act of voting from what voting represents/actually is. By voting for that person you are endorsing their policies, even if you dont agree with them all. You cant vote for the clearly racist dude and then turn around and say you dont have a racist bone in your body.

    1. It depends on why the person is voting for them.

    2. While I think Trump is a racist, he hasn't done anything so egregious as that. Yes, that might be racist just because of the extremity of the issue, but there's a lot of variables involved. If there is a variable greater than that, then maybe not (note: a variable that would have to be greater than slavery would have to be something pretty insane like he's the only dude that can stop an alien invasion or some shit).

Ksandra really has a fantastic point. The abortion issue alone is extremely interesting.

By the logic being thrown around here, someone who is against abortion because they view it as the literal murder of a child could absolutely consider anyone voting against him a baby killer. By the logic here, your choice is being racist or supporting the murder of innocent children.

This is what I meant about it being infinitely more complex than it's being portrayed.

Okay, but not all racism is as big as that. Sometimes it's as small as voting to keep the black kids in a different area, voting to cut services to specific areas that coincidentally are majority colored, etc.

If your bar for "okay this is racist" is some overt speech of the candidate saying "bring back slavery", then no one is ever going to be racist to you. I'm not even saying someone is racist cause they didnt realize a vote for the candidate meant they were gonna cut welfare programs in poor communities, I'm saying this guy, Trump in particular, has said enough on the campaign and done enough as POTUS for 3 years, that we can confidently say the man is racist, will enact racist policies, and if you vote for him you are, quite literally, supporting racism.

And if supporting racism doesnt make you racist, then boy oh boy that's a pretty thin hair you're splitting.

This is literally why my stance on abortion is that it IS murder, but it is a specific form of murder that should be legal because our legal framework prioritizes bodily autonomy over saving someone else.

There's a difference between failing to do something to save someone (renting out your uterus for 9 months) and killing for the purpose of ending life.

I get that. And I'm pro choice. But you can clearly see how in some people's eyes this would make you a monster and more evil than a racist.
