Overwatch (2) - October 4, 2022

Its both surprising and not surprising it feels like they have done nothing on this game in three years.

Just going by what they've shown to the public, it definitely feels like they've barely done anything aside from making minor changes to character designs. I know they have done things, but in the time since it was first announced, they haven't made it look like much.

3 years in and this is what I'm aware of:
Change to 5v5 from 6v6
New mode: Push
ONE new hero
4 new maps (2 Push, 1 Escort, 1 Hybrid)
Hero reworks (4 characters listed)

All I'm aware of on the PvE side of this is that characters will have skill trees.

The way I saw it, PvE was the main selling point of OW2 and they've done nothing to keep my hype up since that initial announcement, everything has been PvP related.
Considering they said PvP would be compatible between both games, I don't see the point of holding PvP content until OW2 releases...someday...maybe. They'll need to find a good reason for PvP players to buy OW2 if PvE content is going to be the only difference between the games.

I love the franchise as a whole (remember those amazing cinematics we used to get?), but I'm realizing more and more that they only seem to care about the esports aspect of the game and they're even failing at that with the amount of time they're taking.

The story better be amazing.

I’m kinda amazed that like, across all the cinematics, comics, and short stories……WE NEVER REALLY got passed the story where the monkey pushes the button. I’m still not over that. Also they had this big comic book thing that they were going to show off the story….but then they canceled it because they didn’t want to ruin tumblr headcanons? What a mess.

Hopefully we’ll get some kickass cinematics out of this, but yeah I had to moan about the lack of story progression, they spent so much time being nostalgic for the first Overwatch that this 2nd recalled Ovewatch we got absolutely nothing. I don’t even most of the cast joined Overwatch so its all ????

PvP beta is live. Currently watching IDDQD and the game looks great. Sojourn is going to be insane in the right hands with her rail gun. He's currently playing as her and it feels (looks) like she's a Soldier/Widow hybrid. Soldier for normal attacks then Widow with the charged rail gun shots. Tanks are more aggressive instead of just shield bots, they seem more like bulky DPS.

Kinda side note, I used to watch IDDQD all the time, kinda dropped twitch entirely when Adblock stopped working, cause I dont have $50/month to spend on subs for streamers i enjoy and nothing sucks dick more than missing chunks of content because of a 3minute long multi-add break.

I'm glad to see he's still streaming, can't believe he's still streaming Overwatch after all this time to be honest cause damn thats some commitment, but I may just go watch the VODs for 2... <Edit:> Looks like he actually jumped to GTA5, good for him, glad he was able to make the switch from the game that made him famous to something else, I hear for a lot of content creators this is a scary leap.

Try "TTV LOL" for adblock. It's what I use (on Firefox) after someone in a stream recommended it. I agree that Twitch is terrible with all the ads now otherwise.

I played it a bit yesterday. I mean its Overwatch, Its certainly a fun game still. Don't know if 5 instead of 6 makes a huge difference, but as a healer, it definitely makes my job a little easier not having to juggle so many people.

I also enjoyed some of the changes. Crees sticky bomb is neat, Bastions rework is kinda fun its just a shame he still has a Tank-sized hitbox, and I do enjoy all the neat little passives each role has now. Orisa is pretty S Tier if you ask me, her changes are amazing.

I played a bit of Sojourn and I think she is terrible lol. Widow's role as a skirmisher but more punishing when you miss shots. Low ranked comp is going to hate her.

Not much else to try, but it was good to play some O-Dub for the first time since season 8.

She honestly felt like a different type Ashe to me. Yeah game feels like more OW. Apparently this is their final UI and not just a UI for the beta? Because... its not good. The 5 member team does make tanks feel much squishier, except for Orisa who even with changes manages to be a monster.

OW2 does feel like a Balance Patch more than a Sequel. The PVE Side of things is still on the table sure but while the game was enjoyable, I feel like its going to fizzle out really quick for most people as they realize the core experience is still the same and most characters play the same, especially supports, who just die instantly to the mildest dive now due to lack of barriers/protection.

That guy, mmm makes like 1 or 2 good points, but personally don't agree with his views on role queue TBH as I think it was one of the best additions to the game, save the unfortunate queue times for DPS. Also not sure how Widow is "trash", Widow is in arguably the best spot shes ever been in thanks to single tanks, the lack of barriers in game now pretty much gives good Widows free reign to carry matches in some maps.

Yeah for not playing this game in two years its amazing how much hasn't changed. Little QoL issues or different nitpicks heroes had. Nothing really feels new or revolutionized Or issues addressed. Maybe that's what they were going for, but feels like a lot of wasted time and effort.

I mean, the whole point of OW2 is the PvE which is not featured in the beta (I think it's fair to ask why even have this beta then..). If you want the PvE, that's what they're selling, but if you don't care about that side of the game, you don't need to spend a penny on it. There's certainly criticisms that the game/devs deserve in regards to lack of balance patches, characters, maps, game-modes, etc., but complaining that OW2 is more OW feels like people are missing the point.

This better be free, because its just a balance change. The PVE content is what they were going to be able to charge for.

Its not so much it feels like Overwatch. That much was to be expected. More some of the issues people had are still there. This is two years of work and it feels like very little was done. Its entirely possible the two years all went into the PvE side. Just little shocked after two years it doesn't feel like anything is different or problems addressed. Maybe its just me too. Maybe there are just things I don't like about this game.

OWL season starts this weekend. As someone who predominantly played tank, curious to see how tanks perform in the 5v5 at the highest levels, which tanks are most viable, what metas develop, etc.
