Apparently viewership was extremely flat, especially after all the hype of that first twitch stream that had a lot of eyes on it.

I watched a bit and... I mean, its OWL? Picks matter a bit more because of less people (one pick = 20% of the enemy team dead/staggered) and there's a bit more flanking now since people aren't bunkering up, but I dunno... I feel like the luster is gone for me, and this is coming from someone who followed the Outlaws and Dragons pretty hard for the previous seasons.

I find myself wishing that Apex had a tournament scene more than OWL. Something about the game just feels "meh" in today's gaming scene. Perhaps I just can't shake how shitty and disgusting of a company Blizzard is, and its souring my opinion.

That's on them, though. They didn't have to be creepy, horny, toxic assholes. They could have just worked for a paycheck like most people, but eh.

I really don't know what they were thinking calling this Overwatch 2. As a casual observer you literally can't tell it apart from Overwatch. Until someone told me it was 5v5 instead of 6v6 I thought Blizzard was actually trying to pass off a balance patch as a new game. Hell, I still kind of think that.

I'll admit, I thought the games started today and didn't watch yesterday at all. I'm gonna sneak the London game at work after I get out of a meeting this afternoon though -- curious to see if the team continues to be awful this year.

Again, the PvP changes are a balance patch, the meat of the 2 is the PvE side of the game. We just know next to nothing about that side of the game.

Late reply, but yeah I think it was a mandate from Activision from a branding perspective to sell to normies at Wal-mart.

But yeah, they really need to show off some new content to excite people about the release. I think the beta failed to do that because they kept playing so close to chest. I remember the most excited I was for Overwatch 1 is when they showed off 3 new heroes at the Blizzcon a few months before release.

Oh, I guess their gorgeous cinematics will do the same job if they start staggering those soon.

Oooh, interesting they're getting rid of loot boxes. My only grievance is I wish it shipped with new heroes. In my mind I imagined OW2 shipping with like 5 heroes.

I think this is actually good for Overwatch. Shows commitment. I generally like battle passes. However everyone else seems to be pissed. Could be a meme. I don't know. Free to play, I'll at least check it out.

PvE experiences

Soe's question and their response about going F2P is such BS. They're clearly following trends in gaming. That said, if they can stick to the 9 week schedule and keep putting out a new hero every 18 weeks, that's great for the game. I'm not sure I have the most faith in their ability to do so though. I mean, it's been how many years since OW2 was announced and they're only putting out three new heroes at release?? Beyond that, just look at Halo, we know that pre-release promises mean nothing, so we'll see I guess..

Saying October 4th is the release date, but PvE content doesn't release till 2023 with no date given. It's just going to open the door to Overwatch 1.5 criticisms.

Overwatch 1 will be replaced by 2 on October 4th.

“We’re using the term ‘Early Access’ to indicate this is just the start of many new things coming to the game,” Keller said. “We’re launching with new heroes, maps, and features, but there are even more of these coming seasonally—every nine weeks. We recently released a roadmap detailing some of this content, with a new hero coming in Seasons 1 and 2, and a new map in Season 2. Additionally, larger pieces of the game that have always been a part of the vision for OW2 will be released to the game as part of the live service, including the launch of the PvE campaign next year. When OW2 launches on October 4, it will be a replacement for the current Live Service.”

Curious to see the AA on that orb and the explosion size.

In the second clip, it hits Orisa, but can't see if it hits anyone else. I would say, for the average players, it's probably going to be as effective as Ana's sleeps for shutting down ults (so probably pretty effective for OWL/high skill players).
