I spent almost 8 years living overseas, South America, Europe, etc. Then lived in bum fuck locations like Kentucky and Tennessee until finally settling in northern VA.

Shit sucked at first, but within five minutes of visiting friends and family I’m reminded why I left. My only regret at the moment is that my mom isn’t closer to my son and little man isn’t gonna grow up in the same culture I did.

You grew up in NYC right? Was it a shitty neighborhood and people got caught up just staying in the same place their whole lives?

I guess I can't say much since I've always lived within an hour and change from where I grew up, but I don't regret moving on from my old friends.

My granny used to make really good dressing at Thanksgiving and after she passed away one of my cousins started using her recipe to make it. The first year was kind of meh as he was learning but from his 2nd year doing it, it has consistently been excellent and surpassing granny’s dressing. Everyone in the family acknowledges this except my mom. She’s just being stubborn and won’t admit anyone can make better dressing than her deceased mother and it’s kind of funny how much in denial she is about it.

For me this is hard to answer because I lost touch with people when I moved to Orange County, regained contact then lost everyone when I nuked my Facebook account.

Tried to contact some but for the most part, don't think they really care too much about me to reach out so have to live with that L. My best friends are basically the family that still live in the area.

Everytime I come back, I realized I don't really belong here anymore and when I get my degree, I'm gonna put my energy towards leaving NY again.
