I mean I literally was in a meeting 2 hours ago with somebody who designed the CCD cameras on a telescope that has been working in space for 20 years at ~97% efficiency and he makes less than $120k/yr on the GS payscale with the Boston adjustment.

Who also is a NASA flight director. You know those guys they talk to on comms in astronaut movies? Yeah, one of those.
