My work sucks with backfills during maternity leave. One group had 2 women go on maternity leave 3 months apart. They were understaffed the entire time. And before you ask "Why didn't the other employees pick up the slack?" It's a nonstarter. Throwing more work to the remaining employees would have resulted in work comp cases for tendinitis/RSIs.

The higher ups said they would backfill eventually. Eventually was when one of the women returned from maternity leave. Ugh I hated waiting 4-6 weeks for my data turnaround instead of 1-2 weeks.
