Just wait a year and see if Intel gets their head out of their asses or just wait. Still rocking a 6700k and its fine aside from some issues that require the use of Throttlestop otherwise I'm stuck at 800MHz

If you're gonna drop money now just go Ryzen.

Waiting to see if the next gen of nvidia gfx have a decent upgrade outside of RTX or if my 1080ti is gonna have to keep on hauling along.

Nvidia should be on their way down to 7nm, so we should see big gains from that.

The next Intel line is apparently going to be 14nm+++ so... more of the same.

yuh those internal roadmaps suggest they wont shrink to 10 for desktop processors until 2021 or may just skip it for 7 nm in 2022

Intel is basically a disaster of a company but as long as they retain their gaming lead over AMD what's a boy to do i ain't videoediting or streaming shit daddy just needs Cyberpunk fps you feel

If budget is you biggest hurdle go AMD procs, otherwise grab the last two items on Intel's i proc list.
Things are a bit more complicated when it comes to GPU. Of you want bang per buck, always go AMD. If you want forward looking features you get Nvidia. Even though rocm is now a thing, the lack of headaches when dealing with cuda for machine learning means Nvidia takes the Cake for my next purchase. I'd never spend ~$1k on a gpu for gaming, but I would for machine learning and once you hit that range, don't bother with AMD.
As for nanometer ratings, ignore the hype until you get some benches. It's ultimately about efficiency via how well designed the architecture is along with power consumption. It's why AMD's newer procs are impressive, but still get BTFO'd by Intel procs on shit that matters to me.

I've been fucking with my laptop lately to squeeze out more juice, and down clocking the i7-8750h by 400 Mhz (on top of a -145mv undervolt) actually gained me performance cause it prevented the heat from the CPU from throttling the GPU. This is in a laptop that runs over 2 grand mind you.

Big ass desktop replacements are the only thing in the mobile field right now that can even remotely handle the heat from 8th gen and up i7/i9, shit is dumb as fuck. I know even the paragon of "it just works" (Apple) has been having major issues with newer laptops as well cause Intel is just out of control with how inefficient their processors are getting in terms of thermals.

And meanwhile AMD is maybe looking at getting a Zen2 mobile processor out sometime next year, but which will apparently only have a 15w tdp so all higher end laptops will still be hotter then the surface of the sun.
