Set 20 Years After the Original

Path of Exile 2 is a new seven-act storyline that is available alongside the original Path of Exile 1 campaign. Both the old and new storyline lead to the same shared Atlas endgame. Path of Exile 2 retains all expansion content that has been created over the last six years and introduces a new skill system, ascendancy classes, engine improvements and more.

20 Years Have Passed

Since the death of Kitava, society has been slowly rebuilding. Ambitious men rise to fill the void and their thirst for power is once again corrupting Wraeclast.

19 New Ascendancy Classes

Path of Exile 2's characters are a new set of Exiles who fall into the same class archetypes as those in the original game. As such, they can pick from a set of 19 new Ascendancy Classes that differ from the old ones that are still available in the Path of Exile 1 campaign.

New Skill Gem System

Path of Exile 2 introduces the next generation of Path of Exile's iconic skill system. Support Gems are now socketed directly into Skill Gems, removing many of the frustrations present in the old system while maintaining all the previous depth. It's now possible to six-link every skill your character uses.

All New Equipment

The entire progression of armour and weapons has been redone from start to finish, alongside entirely new character models and animations. All of your old microtransactions are still compatible.

And Much More

Over the next year, we'll announce a lot more information about the improvements in Path of Exile 2, such as changes to the Passive Skill Tree and other core game systems.Over the years there have been many changes that we would have loved to make to Path of Exile but couldn't, because they would break existing characters. Path of Exile 2 is an opportunity to make all of these changes in one large update.

PoE 2 will be a separate game from PoE 1. Both will have parallel development and independent leagues staggered apart from each other.

A lot slower gameplay compared to its predecessor. But even more customization and the ability to use skills that will use your weapon swap with nifty toggles.

Very, its much more accessible. Its a totally different beast though. Skill matters its slower and impactful as it has a more reactive souls like feel at the start but then later on it picks up, but its not going to become a single button clear screen like 1. at least for now lol. You will have to work for your power. Boss fights are amazing and will not be kiling anything in seconds like d4. You will die alot. Positioning control and proper use of skills, combos etc matters.

There is actually an end game early access will have 6/12 classes 3/6 acts and a fully flushed out end game. Gameplay wise this is very very different to POE1 and D4. D4 imo has nothing on this game. I played every season of d4 since launch. If you found d4 too simple and lacking content this is for you. You will die, there is going to be a challenge and you will need to learn boss moves etc.
There is a lot of gameplay videos wtih really detailed explanations on classes and how skills work etc by quite a few content creators that got to play.

The passive tree is just as big but it is also way more open with being able to change passive with gold now. Then instead of being sorta locked in with passives that was like "+STR". Passives will have a selection of options in them that you can switch it it to.

The game is definitely gunna be streamed to fucking hell and back so if you're on the fence to buy to get into early access, you can check out anyone on twitch or just wait till it goes FTP.

Gem sockets are different now too. The abilities themselves you socket stuff into, not gear. So no more fishing for 6 socket chest pieces or whatnot
