It's gonna suck when my dad passes away and I have to deal with the shitshow. He can't even write a will legally unless the estate forks over $10k to the county so I can write his will. The joys of conservatorship.

Fortunately, my lawyer p much said that we're doing a default liquidation + distribution of assets so no need to write one. Then the judge will force everyone to obey. Good enough for me.

My dad owns 130+ acres of land and has never written any kind of will. His wife has 4 kids of her own. Under NY state law, the estate gets divided 50% to her and 50% between my sister, brother, and myself. Which means 100% to his wife unless I contest anything because neither of my siblings ever will.

I got I guess "lucky " in the department of losing my parents in the sense that since we grew up poor as fuck there wasn't anything to debate or worry about. The house they had together was taken over by my dad and while he remarried a real piece of work after my mom passed, the worst she took was any life insurance from me which I didn't even want.

This is the man who abused me mentally and emotionally for years, threatened my life constantly and even refused my attempt to reconcile after mom died. While I have no regrets about being at his bedside in hospice the day he died , that was my own sense of peace not for him.

His new wife actually abandoned him in a long term facility after his health started deteroriating for almost two years, then tried to swoop in like some savior , fuck off bitch. Even her own adopted daughter apologized for her behavior and was ashamed of her.

I still get emotional as fuck around the holidays and still feels awful knowing you have no family.

Greedy family and lawyers will still make it hell. I mean shit, my dad's trust was about as cut and dry as you can get, so my brother and mother are basically trying to extract money my dad invested in the new house that belongs to my step mom.



Haha, if you think that doesn't cut out the drama from greedy pieces of shit, I got a bridge to sell you. When my great aunt died, the lawyer she trusted as well as her sister took advantage of her alzheimers and dementia and tried to redo the will. My grandmother had to have my dad sue to become executor of the estate, and even then by the time that all got settled, if it wasn't nailed down or bolted to the house, it was gone.

The money invested in the house counts as estate.

Not in this sense. The vacation home was in my dad's name only and designated to be left to my brother and I. The main house is in her name only, to be left to her children.

This is really more just petty revenge. My mother hated the fact my dad found happiness after divorce and he removed her from the life insurance policy, my brother pissed off my stepmother told him he's no longer welcome around her cause if his attitude and drug abuse

ya absolute naivety from people who haven't had to experience it if they think an executor or a clearly delineated trust or explicate will or anything else will make it smooth. still the thing to do obv, but all you're really doing is giving the good ones the ability to beat the bad ones in legal disputes. it's still going to be hell when toxic blood gets the scent of money.

LMAO, the reason my shit is so fucking specific/cut and dry is because my father's family took us for a fucking ride. We went from a family that traveled internationally, spent holidays around the world and moved countries whenever my mom felt like it, to a family with a single mother working three jobs. Trust me, I know first hand. Nobody gets ANY kind of recourse, every cent or thing of value is accounted for. Intangible shit, is accounted for.
