Thanks, the miscarriage was the worst part by a long shot. Wife even vagaled in the ER cause they never gave her fluids.

My wife's a Nurse, she's done medsurge telemetry, ER, and now outpatient infusion which she loves. I don't want to wipe asses, but oh well. Only issue with the nursing program is there will be a wait list so theoretically it'll take longer than if I did CS or something and I really don't want to work nights or weekends/holiday's anymore, been doing it since I was like 18.

How do kids pick careers at 18 lol I just want to do something I'm happy to do and proud to tell my kids I do. I do not have that now.

I even said I would do nursing first as a job to do while in school. The problem is having a house and a kid and the toll it'll take on the family and finances.

I hate to say student loans, but I had to go this route and I also worked. Check to see if there are loan forgiveness programs in your state that pay your tuition in exchange for working in the state.

I didn't pick something right our of highschool and thought all my friends were stupid. They were. They spent TONS on school and changed their minds like 8 times. I'm giving myself 4 months more to decide and already blew through 2 months, its a hard decision. It's compounded by having a house and kid and needing to earn a minimum to be stable but the minimum is literally average pay, but knowing what I know now I want to do it happily.

Just wanna say if you do go back and do end up taking math, youtube is a good resource to learn fundamental concepts. However doing it well unavoidably takes practice which may be difficult given your personal situation. Sincerely wish you luck, Boyiee.

My life really hasn't been that bad in comparison to you guys so I'll keep my stuff to myself. I did pay off my student loans while being unemployed but veteran benefits are pretty dope, I must say.

2020 was shit for all the reasons Melena already beat me to posting.

Honestly only good things I can take away are :

Got a job promotion.

I did some hikes I never thought I could physically do before and explored more local nature areas.

Got to swim with sealions.

Made a lot of new fun food ideas at home.

Supported local businesses and food trucks.

Even with the above my depression hit an all time low since I was roughly 20, suicidal thoughts daily since March and gained back about 40lbs that I lost before. Finally starting to fix the last part again but just mentally exhausted.

My fear is Calculus there's not much beyond that I think I'd have to be worried about for a CS major.

Thank you dude. I was always better with science and memorization so the medical field is easier for me and it gives my wife and I something to talk about. Just thought it would be cool to do something with computers and maybe apps or even space since I feel like I'd have some passion there.

Yeah my prob is I don't want to have to move/commute to the jobs in the urban areas. I know there's a lot of jobs in the burbs at these small businesses, start-ups and industrial parks but I want to stay close to home which limits me big time. I've never coded outside of couple game apps to teach basic stuff no clue if I'd actually like it or not.

Responding to this specifically. Which is not to say I'm ignoring the shit you've been through this year, it fucking sucks and you have my sympathies.

Do not base your self worth on your job/work, unless your job is taking advantage of/abusing or scamming people. There are few of us that end up working in jobs we love. No matter what your job is, take pride in it and in doing it well.
It sounds like some kind of empty platitude, but it's less about you and more about how to treat and see the world. While I hope it is not the case with you, people that think they way I'm perceiving you are tend to guage the worth of other people in the same way. All jobs worth doing are important jobs.

I completely understand, I could have worded it better. The job I'm losing is a fantastic job, we are paid too much and basically paid to learn, understand, and respond to things that rarely happen. The job itself is easy enough that on night shift I can play games, I've raided in wow classic at night and we're paid 6 figures. But it's a pretty boring easy job that's hard to explain and whenever someone asks what I do I'm dumbfounded. I stare at monitors and watch some pressures. It's not something I want to go to career day with.

I have nothing to talk about with my wife regarding work, no what did you do today anything happen at work. It's extremely boring. Best job I will ever have by far and the worst part about it is driving 38 minutes to and from it and the schedule. 2 weeks of nights 2 weeks of days. The job itself is just great.

My problem with losing it was firstly, oh fuck how am I going to make 6 figures panic ensues. My wife got me off that, I only need average pay to live comfortably and afford our house and kids. Sure I'll make less than her but NBD really been that way until this job anyway. So since I'm taking the "must make x amount" out of the equation it boils down to doing something I want to do for once, something I'm proud to do or to talk about or to go to career day with. Instead of chasing dragons and trying to outearn my friends who fall into 120k+ civil service jobs, I could finish my education and do something that I'm doing for me instead of for a certain lifestyle.
