Our office manager got billed to one of my jobs one pay period when I first started. She was making $96k at the time. She's useless and actually had to have tasks taken away from her, but I'm sure she makes even more money now.

My first middle last name, email address, pay, title, place of work, date of birth, retirement plan selection are all public information thanks to organizations mostly funded by the Koch brothers

In my experience, the higher ups who say this only say it because they dont want those below them rocking the boat asking for more, cause it erodes the bottom line and once in awhile the person complaining just might be better for that same job, or worse, will do the same job for less lol

Some public employees even their investment choices are all public (usually more political ones)

Discussing pay with colleagues with same job descriptions/titles to see if you or them are getting hosed on salary is fine. That doesn't mean you go flaunting it to the interns or staff whose job functions have nothing to do with your career.

Lucky for me, I'm in a government job and under a union, so everyone with the same title as me is in the same salary range (raises are merit based and are no longer given once you reach the cap for your position) so Joe Blow IT guy at public works doesn't have to worry about if he's underpaid versus IT Sally at the auditors office.

Unlucky for me, just like with D44k, if you know my full name and what county agency I work for, you can see my full pre-tax pay along with benefits and pension.
