I had to have emergency surgery (part of the procedure was literally removing my stomach and all of my intestines) and almost died back in November. In my 30s. Not heart surgery but 3 months to get back to work and full recovery is about a year or two IF I fully recover.

Does that count?

Mine started w a rash on my chest, i thought it was a scratch from moving boxes at work, thought nothing of it. Rash was still there next day, so i took benelyn. Ineffective. Monday i went to work and asked the pharmacist (when i still worked retail) to check it out. She sent me to the doctors right away, like “do not pass go” kinda thing.

Doc looks at it, “shingles” and puts me on the valacyclovir pills for a week. Blisters spread along my right chest over the shoulder and neck.

Ineffective! But i wasnt really in any pain either. Not to the extent i was told it would be.

Had to go to the hospital, and they put me on IV for two days. Thats when the pain started, and it was from the fucking needle. Oh god i hate needles.

Two days of IV and it wasnt really going away, but i wasnt sleeping either cuz i was terrified Id rip it out in my sleep. They were gonna put me on for 5 days and i literally begged them to give me a day and see if it starts clearing up if i can get some sleep for a night. Went back the next day and they said it was looking better.

They suggested i get the vaccine, but its not covered in Canada, and it costs $250.

They sent me to the hospital since the pills werent working as expected. Clinics arent set up for IV treatment.

I’ve never had a flu shot and to my knowledge I’ve never had the flu. Fingers crossed I’m one of the few weird immune people.

I also am not around children/elderly or immuno compromised people on any regular basis so I feel no obligation to have one done.

Maybe I’ll get one if I live to be like 60 or something.

You do understand how vaccines work right? I'm guessing not because you think this is a slam dunk retort. They're putting a dead or seriously weakened version of the virus in your body so your immune system can develop the antibodies to properly fight it. You know what an immune response to a virus is? Fever, headache,muscle aches etc.

I didn't get it this year because I always get sick anyways. Last year I got it and nearly died a month later, plus I was down for a day after I got it
