When I was working retail in college we had a girl (early 20s) that was dating one of the assistant managers (early 30s) and it was unofficially a secret (a lot of people knew but didn't talk about it openly), one day she showed up to work with a black eye and seriously tried the whole "I walked into a door" excuse, like straight off one of those made for TV movies. A group of us minimum wage retail peons cornered the assistant manager and threatened his life over it, he transferred to a different store two days later but she stupidly continued dating him for a while. It was a happy ending though they eventually did break up and she's got a happy life now.

We notified the owners when we started dating and they were fine with it as long as it didn't interfere with business. We kept it professional. So much so, it took the staff 3 months to figure it out.

Our scenario worked obviously, but that's hardly the norm.
