Not unexpected sadly. It sucks even more since the anime decided to rehash the movie anyway but in episodic format with a few new scenes to justify it. Show became too big for them to renew it, wonder how much of the show airing on Toonami helped boost the movie though since they also ran ads for the movie
A lot I'm sure. They spammed commercials for it in between every show before the movie was released.

Toonami turned 25 years old the other day! Are you old? I feel old.
Anyway, here is some news.

Toonami has a new ship (sorta) and new graphics! I like it.
Just in case anybody cares Toonami is not doing well. Lupin the 3rd part 6 is the only new show right now followed by a double dose of Ninja friends and Pirate retards.

They are adding the new season of Primal but new episodes will have already aired a week earlier on Sunday. Also the new anime, "Uzumaki" has been delayed again and will not premiere in October as planned.

It's kind of a grave they dug for themselves by not being aggressive on acquiring new shows people would actually want to watch. Naruto and One Piece are very much old hat by now, with their respective fandoms likely watching the subs forever ago. AoT repeats only go so far. Same for DB or digging back further for Bebop. The occasional quirky choice shows haven't done 'em any favors, either.
I'd say "just as planned" by the execs to turn it into another shitty Sunday night block, but really, they're not even trying to compete with streaming services.
Yeah Lupin is the only show I actively tune in and watch since I don't sail the high seas, or have a HiDIVE account. The OP episodes they air now are 10 years behind anything current and Naruto is just a slog to watch since it isn't following a "filler free" guide, and weekly at that. Sucks that shows like Demon Slayer or new JoJo will never come to Toonami just based either on being priced out due to how popular it became, or Netlifx being owning things.

Toonami is here to remind you that they are DC's bitch and will air 30 year old Batman movies as a way to advertise whatever junk they have coming up.
However rumor is they have gotten some new shows.

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Shorching Sun premieres tonight. Whoa. Didn't see that coming.
They also have MHA on again. It's the second to last episode of season 5 so maybe they will have 6 on soon?

Yes. Dawn of the Deep Soul. It is canon and takes place immediately after season 1. It's on Hulu and HIDive. Toonami wanted to get it but it was too expensive for the rights.

Season 6 of MHA premiers this Saturday on the block!
Dr. Stone season 3 premieres this weekend on Toonami.

Warning: There is a TV special called, "Dr. Stone: Ryusui" that takes place before the third season that aired last year. You need to watch it or you won't understand what's going on. Why they are not airing it too I have no idea. ^^;

Adult Swim has greenlit “Lazarus,” a new Toonami series from renowned anime director Shinichirō Watanabe, known for his work helming episodes of “Cowboy Bebop,” “Samurai Champloo” and “Kids on the Slope.”
Produced by Sola Entertainment and animated by Studio MAPPA, “Lazarus” also recruits the contributions of “John Wick” series director Chad Stahelski, who designed several action sequences for the series, along with the musical talents of saxophonist Kamasi Washington; producer, DJ and musician Floating Points; and producer, DJ and musician Bonobo. The trio will provide a jazz and electronic score for the project.
Watanabe will pull the curtain back on the series at the Adult Swim Festival in San Diego on Saturday at 5:15 p.m., as part of the Comic-Con event Toonami on the Green.
Also, Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters Part 1 will air on the block Sep. 9th.
