I can’t wait to see how this offseason goes. Possible QBs with new homes include:

    Winston
    Mariota
    Dalton
    Bridgewater
    Brees
    Brady
    Tannehill
    Rivers
    Manning
    Fitztragic

*Doubtful on all names beginning with a ‘B’

Manning never waived his no-trade clause so it’s probably a wrap for him.

Unless Foles gets paid by the Jags on retirement, no one is dumb enough to give away a truckload of money at his age. I also don't think another team is dumb enough to take on that contract via trade, so Jags are stuck. He has a 30+M cap hit, even if he retires, so I don't see why they wouldn't at least want him as a backup.

You underestimate the stupidity of many of the GMs and owners out there.

AFAIK he still gets his pay for next year anyway even if he retires. I could be wrong on that. But he's not riding out 4 years at Jacksonville no matter what.

He’ll get signed as a backup to another team after this contract, perform amazingly well when he’s called into a game, and get paid again to be the starter for another team where he’ll suck again.

Thus the cycle of Nick Foles continues.

(foles is my boy too but anyone who argues the eagles should have kept him and ditched wentz is obviously severely mentally handicapped and not worth arguing with)

I'm talking Fitzpatrick like back in the day, like when the Bills signed him to that large contract the first time he broke out, which initiated the first Fitzmagic cycle.

Part of the issue, a very large part, is the Jags OLine is worse than a high school team line. It's so, so, so bad. There's no protection, constant holding penalties because they suck so hard, and that situation favors Minshew over Foles (and is still too much for Minshew as a rookie).

The OLine needs to be a priority in the draft but the front office has made terrible decisions with draft picks aside from Josh Allen. There's a huge disconnect between what the team needs and what the draft focus has been. The defense has also been atrocious but I truly believe that's more of a coaching issue than a personnel issue. Wash needs to be fired 6 games ago. Marrone should probably go too just due to his inability to put pressure on his coordinators to change things up. He's a really chill guy and I like him as a person, but he's not the person for the HC position in Jax.

Foles cannot succeed with the current Jags OLine and expecting a full turn-around in 1 year is too much.

Personally, I thought the Jags were killing it in the draft. Our division had 2 of the best QB talents in the league (RIP Luck), so a solid defense was a requirement for success. In recent years, they have drafted:

    Jalen Ramsey
    Myles Jack
    Josh Allen
    Telvin Smith
    Yannick Ngakoue
Dante Fowler (I think he is a bust, but experts would disagree)

This seems like hit after hit after hit in the draft. Should be THE best defensive nucleus in the league right now. They just squandered all of this with poor coaching and management.

Edit: And I'm loving every second of it. The Jags completely give up every year around the same time. Clockwork.

And to the surprise of nobody, reports are coming in that it’s getting more and more likely dem boys use both the franchise and transition tags for Dak and Cooper. Byron Jones likely walks away in free agency.

Did more info come out regarding Cooper's injury? Did he return to the game or is he dead?

Can the Jaguars just cut Nick Foles?
The short answer is yes. The long answer is not really. If the Jaguars just straight up release Foles they will have to eat $33.8 million in dead money in 2020, which they can do, but it severely hampers any other movement, would probably requires some more salary trimming and really is not ideal. It costs them $11 million more to outright release him than it does to keep him on the roster, but as mentioned you’re not going to sit $22 million on the bench.

The team could split the difference and designate him a post-June cut, which would be a dead cap hit of $21.3 million in 2020 and $12.5 million in 2021 and would give them $750,000 in cap relief in 2020. Again though, this is not ideal and probably a worst case scenario.

Can the Jaguars trade Nick Foles?
Yes, the Jaguars absolutely can trade Nick Foles and should be what they aggressively try to do in the offseason. Even with trading Foles you will have to eat some dead money, because of his guarantees, but it’s a lot more manageable than if you’re just cutting him. In a trade, the Jaguars would have to eat $18.5 million in dead money, but would be a net cap relief of about $4 million. The key here is, whatever team is getting Nick Foles in a trade is really only on the hook for his salary, which is not guaranteed and manageable at $15 million.

If the Jaguars really felt like they needed to overall cap relief, they could also designate it a post-June trade, with a dead money hit of $6.25 million and $12.5 million in 2020 and 2021, respectively. This would give the Jaguars a net cap relief in 2020 of $15.8 million.
