even melee has high quality rollback netplay now!
Anyways, I’m looking forward to Brazilian Ken winning EVO.
The myth Lucavi likes to circulate is that the jps somehow don't give a shit about the rest of the world when they design their games. My take is that they went for a pure arcade experience where the inputs are yours and yours only (SFIV). As explained before, the transmission signal gets degraded over time/distance; so Joe Dirt living in cali vs Schmoe Nobody in Florida ain't gonna fly. Now, I don't know why the ping test rustled jimmies lol. If that didn't convince you, build a basic LED circuit and throw a capacitor in there and you will see how the signal degrades. It's analogous (no pun) to conservation of energy.
In short: there's nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, you can do about lag.But you can hide it.
The games Cantih listed implemented ggpo-like netcodes. It uses probabilistic methods where the netcode, due to latency (nothing you can do about it), guesses the input and thereby hides the lag.
This doesn't excuse crapcom or any company if they do a shitty job with their games or netcode. The jp olverlords always seem to have a hell of a time playing their games doe, that's for sure.
And nah, GMotW is pretty good, give it a try.
Then we're just asking the JP to do a better job of hiding the lag much like those other games that were listed, which are mostly NA developed. Capcom was almost there when someone almost fixed their netcode for SFV (after 4 years) but then they reverted the changes and tried their own thing which helped a little but mostly fell flat.
I will agree with everyone that MotW is fucking amazing, and graces us with one of the most memorable songs in the long list of amazing FG music.
Facts.

I wasn't dunking nor questioning your intelligence. Simply pointed out, 'have you thought maybe abc because xyz?' I see you're not interested in discussing the DSP side of the equation, which is a pretty fucking interesting field, and that's ok.
I'm not interested because the bottom line is that every other country in the world's games work better than Japan's games in a global setting when played online. The FGC will shrivel and rot on the vine without functional online. Japan carries the FGC mantle because the majority of the FGC prefers anime games and Street Fighter. Thus, the onus is on Japan to fix the problem. It is what it is.
People can praise KI all they want for its netcode. KI can't carry the genre in a world of great online games that can be played competitively online far better than anything coming out of Japan.
The disagreement we have here is: pure (as it gets) inputs vs non-pure inputs (ggpo-like). It's obvious the jps gravitate towards the former because that's the arcade feel. For strict frame-input games, it's the right design choice but comes with a set of compromises (awful long distance gaming). You disagree, and it's fine. I bet we have both camps here. There's a similar disagreement between the hardware vs emulators guys. It's a pretty interesting dichotomy between philosophies: arcade vs online experience. For fighting games, however, they are mutually exclusive.
Well there you have it, Welt (and this isn't a knock at you, Jefe): the FGC will die because Japan prefers that good ol' arcade feel over online. I'm sure Japan's arcade scene can prop up an entire genre of games in this age of online competition.
Watching CPT online is so embarrassing.

I'll say this about Them's Fightin' Herds: they put a lot of love into the animations and the tutorials. Best tutorial I've ever seen in a fighting game. Bar none.
