Combo Breaker would certainly be the new "IT" event. None of them are even remotely comparable to the scale of EVO though.

Funny part is, they had time to prepare for something like this. Online should have been revamped during the SF4/Mahvel 3 era. The genre was bumpin, tournaments were flowing and people were interested. Instead of building on that for sustainability, Japan once again assumed lightning will just keep striking the same place because of some divine mandate or whatever, and did absolutely nothing to maintain the quality of the ship they were sailing on. Then there's just Nintendo... the less said about them, the better.

I can’t wait for Nintendo to start sending out C&D letters for all smash streamed content lol. They were probably itching for something like this to happen since they’ve always been coy about supporting the competitive community.
