Tekken 8 (Season 3 update) and SF 6 (Alex + balance patch) both getting big updates tonight/tomorrow morning.

The changes for Tekken 8 look ok but the game is still fundamentally boned from the heat system and their refusal to actually give characters defined weaknesses. Patch notes for 6 will be out in maybe an hour or two. Already assuming they'll just leave characters like Manon and Lily as bottom feeders

Actually as I read the Tekken patch notes more I take it back, the update is horrendous. A few minor system changes to nerf a few things but almost universally buffing the entire cast when the problem with the game was them grossly over buffing everyone to begin with.

So glad I dropped the game when season 2 came out

Marisa's crMK is +5 on hit instead of +3 which is a pretty good change at least

Some of these changes I don't even understand how or why they even think it needs to be a thing. Was there a single person on the planet asking for the 4th hit of Gief's OD lariat to hit a crouch blocking opponent?

So what exactly was done to Tekken 8 to "ruin" it? I see videos on Twitter, but they mean nothing to me at face value.

The game has basically been turned into an endless series of plus on block stance cancels into a 50/50 mixup that just repeats ad nauseum.

Also characters that have long had defined weaknesses (like how Asuka or Paul have always been weak to sidestepping in a certain direction) got removed by giving the characters new moves that are spammable by virtue of being plus on block/safe, further removing individual character identity.

They also just in general nerfed defensive options across the board. Back dashing isn't as good, moves that could traditionally be beaten by sidestepping now have tracking, stuff like that.

It's also worth noting those complaints were all there when the game first released. For the season 2 update a year ago the devs were very clearly stating that they planned to "buff defense" and proceeded to do absolutely not that. For season 3 the messaging was "back to basics" and they've just proceeded to triple down on the 50/50 stance cancel bonanza.

Reading up on that and I didn’t even realize it’s apparently a common theme in SF lore too. Apparently it’s not too different from Dhalsim’s wife giving birth at 17 when he’s a bunch of years older than her. There was another example too I cant remember off the top of my head.
