It is either going to be the worst or best contact in NFL history lmao. Imagine if he has some type of career-ending injury in 2 years and their cap is on the hook for an additional 8. It would absolutely devastate a franchise.

im willing to bet that’s accounted for in the contract somehow. it’s not like nfl contracts have ever been guaranteed. im sure with the groundbreaking length of the deal there’s a lot of weird stuff in the contract
the guy that did cousins contract years ago (which was the largest fully guaranteed contract i think) was speculating mahomes deal could be fixed to a % of the cap each year
Dak holding out seems pretty laughable lol. Not that it wasn’t already. It’s just extra hilarious now.
This is a cap point. If they cut him after year 2 of the 10 years, they will still have outrageous cap hits, whether he sees any of the money or not. The team cannot put in the contract "well we don't have to account for the cap if his leg is bitten off by an alligator". That is against NFL rules lol.
Schefter saying over 400mil. No official number yet
God damn. It’s basically Mike Trout’s contract.
Just hard for a QB who makes things happen with his legs. Going to be a sphincter clencher every time he scrambles.
Then again he could be the new brown Tom Brady and they locked him in at a "steal" of a price while he was still young and only had 1 ring

From Schefter:
Compensation update: Patrick Mahomes’ 10-year extension is worth $450 million, sources tell ESPN.
The injury guarantee is $140 million, per source.
The contract does not contain language that ties its value to a percentage of the salary cap.
Richest deal in sports’ history.
Extension is worth $450 mil in extension $ alone. $140 mil is guaranteed to him if he gets injured. There is no way around the cap hits if he gets injured and dead money remains. I'm not even sure what the Chiefs would do in that scenario because it usually impacts the current year ($20 mil remaining on contract, player retires, $20 mil cap hit against upcoming season). If the worst case scenario occurred, they would have to cut a lot of players just to be allowed to practice by NFL rules.
A recent example is Luke Kuechly. He retired but had $11 mil in dead money left on his contract (its a % of total money remaining), so the Panthers have an $11M hit against their cap going into the 2020 season.
Its a hefty sum, but it doesn't bankrupt the team and allows them to not pull a Seattle and actually afford to retain talent around him. They shouldn't be a one-hit wonder.
Anyone do a suicide watch on Rhyis yet?
why, dak aint gettin 50m for 10 years
he can cry all he wants but he’s not anywhere near mahomes value, and if he thinks he is then lol
also the big thing is dak wants a shorter deal anyway. let him ride the cousins tag for two years
He may not be getting that much, but you know Dak is going to be pushing for somewhere between that and the current #2 pay.
The Cowboys are fucking insane if they pay him that. Dude let Wentz beat him to the playoffs with a significantly better:
O-Line
WR Group
Running Back
Overall defense (? I just remember the Eagles secondary was awful)
How much would Dak's franchise tag be for the season, anyway?
