I don't hate the idea of taking a QB at the end of the first round, it seems like that's about where the experts expected Love to go, whatever. If he turns out to be good it's clearly worth it, if not clearly not. But the value of the RB and TE they took in 2 and 3 seem wildly out of whack with every positional ranking chart out there and RB wasn't an immediate need anyway. It's been a bad draft.

But you cannot gauge this. There is a thing called opportunity cost, and it is real. What if the Packers lose again in the NFC championship game, next season? That first round pick on the bench could have been a first round pass rusher or blocker. Could be the difference in a championship or not.

This is different than the Favre situation. Rodgers was a top 5 guy on many boards and his value was way too high where he went. Love isn't that type of prospect.

The 2007 Packers lost in the NFC championship in overtime with Rodgers on the bench. Maybe they'd have another superbowl if they drafted Roddy White or Heath Miller or Logan Mankins instead of Rodgers in 2005. You cannot gauge this - even getting Rodgers only got them one superbowl.

Rodgers only got them one Bowl because they have been fucking pitiful in the draft/free agency department, while having a top 10 QB of all-time on their roster. And yes, he was very much that high on many boards. Some teams that rated him that highly just didn't need a QB.

Medicine/training has also come a long way since the Favre days. There is no reason to believe Rodgers won't have a Brady-like term in the NFL. Even if he doesn't, like someone else said, Love will be ready for a bigger contract by the time Rodgers is traded/leaves in FA. There is no intelligent defense here.

i'd be shocked if fromm makes it out of the 5th. i really would. a crazy smart guy with a weak arm is the definition of a career backup and super valuable in the qb room

I'll be super stoked if another guy falls to us like that. Does Tampa have a backup? Lions resigned theirs recently, I think. If the Pats don't take him, I don't see many teams who can between who is up and us.

Edit: Tampa resigned Gabbert, but he is total trash.
