Shit is crazy at Costco. Besides the usual shortages in water, paper towels, and toilet paper (sold out,) they have employees handing out sanitation wipes at entry and are constantly wiping down surfaces at the food areas.

So my wife works in Wake County in NC (Cary, just outside of Raleigh) and there has been 1 confirmed case here.

She got the flu last week and also got pneumonia and an upper respiratory infection because she's just that lucky. Fast forward to today. She's had no fever for 48hrs and been on meds for over 72hrs and had taken the past two days off as a precaution.

Her boss and head of HR pulled her outside this am to tell her she had to leave because her cough might make the other employees uncomfortable because of coronavirus. Mind you, they have all of her documentation as far as her illness etc. Her staff is 4 people, all of whom have come in sick numerous times throughout the years like troopers. They wouldn't even let her back in the building to get her stuff. All of her employees texted her within 30min asking wtf happened because they knew she had pneumonia and had zero problems with her being there.

HR lady told her she couldn't come back as long as she has a cough. HR lady is now a doctor apparently.

Normally I'd say this is bullshit, but if your wife hasnt been specifically tested for coronavirus, it doesnt matter what other ancillary issues she had, she could still have it, especially if you already have a confirmed case in your area.

If it wasnt for that confirmed case I'd raise hell, but the evidence is there and lack of testing is real. She should just take the time off.

The vast majority of confirmed cases/deaths were in one nursing home. It's cute that you think that somehow this is a Washington issue but it's everywhere already and you just don't know it yet. It's stupid to shut down everything because it's not going to do anything to help. You're going to get it eventually.

I'd say with almost 100% certainty I've been exposed to it at some point in the last week since it was officially confirmed in WA. I live in King County and work right next to Centurylink Field, and have been out in public all the last week (including a college basketball game).

Really just waiting for the symptoms to start.

I think that if you aren't over 60, don't have a compromised immune system or other ailments, and aren't going to be in contact with any of the previously mentioned, you shouldn't be panicking about this. Just wash your damn hands.

Are you implying we should just cancel everything for the next several months? Because a lockdown ala China is pretty much the only way to stop this now that we literally have community transfer. The time of tracking down everyone who has interacted with sick people has LONG passed.
