It should absolutely be stated that alcohol based hand sanitizers will dissolve the virus. You can't wash your hands with soap and water all the time. Hand sanitizer can be kept in a pocket or purse and be easily used after touching things, such as getting back in your car after a trip to the market. It's really no time to shame people for aseptic techniques that work. If your hands are visibly soiled, soap and water are a must.

Hand sanitizer works very well if your hands aren't visibly soiled, because this is a virus. It's not a spore.

It's perfectly acceptable to use sanitizer as an alternative. Washing your hands with soap and water is great, but who the fuck is going to run into a bathroom immediately after touching something?

Also, don't confuse the final concentration needing to be 60% alcohol with needing 60% rubbing/isopropyl alcohol. You're gonna need 99% isopropyl alcohol to make the batch to make the final concentration above 60%. A lot of websites do not get this right. You need to get this right.

My 3 year old has contracted the same illness my 5 year old has (just like every time he gets sick at school). Symptoms are coughing, fever and fatigue (just like every time he gets sick at school). If we had a competent government that set up drive thru screenings or had anywhere near enough testing kits I'd get them checked but as it is I guess we'll all just get stir crazy at home together.

Mother nature certainly is helping out that plan.

It's basically never "too late for social distancing" because it reduces transmissions, which is what we want.

I would take anything Malcolm Gladwell says with the tiniest grain of salt. It could have been one guy running with that story and Gladwell would sensationalize the shit out of it like that's the foregone conclusion of all experts.

He was talking about having a new born, which means they shouldn't be going out much anyways. Can use soap and water around the house and when they get back. So no need for hand sanitizer.

Just got back from shopping. Aside from toilet paper and sanitizer, stores around here are still decently stocked- though them spaghetti aisles are beginning to look a little thinned out. Just wish 1/4 of my freezer wasnt taken up by an anniversary cake that still has 3 months to go.
