Problem with the drive thru testing is that it will still take forever for labs to process it. It takes a few hours to setup a batch to run a PCR and analyze. And the labs can't get the tests and reagents fast enough to process everything. It will take at least another month for biotech firms to catch up and churn out kits at a reasonable clip. Then you have to have enough techs to run around the clock. Plus with the whole monitoring and requiring multiple negative tests to be in the clear, that means the country needs 5-10x the amount of kits/reagents for everyone to get screened. It's a massive logistical nightmare and the lack of coordination at the top isn't helping.

Well there will be plenty of jobs for fresh grads getting into biotech only to be laid off after COVID runs its course.

So, even when we finally get this virus under control here, what about some of the poorer countries like those in Africa? I doubt they have the same capabilities to fight this that others do and they’d still be just as contagious.

For kicks I looked at the FB of someone I called a best friend for over 10 years until around six years ago. He posts the typical hardcore R stuff so that's whatever but what stood out was him stating we should be more worried about dying from getting struck by lightning than covid-19. While I am no longer friends with him I do not wish anything bad for him or anyone for that matter, but I am dumbfounded, sad, and am hoping nothing happens to his father who has had very serious health issues in the past. He is another that can't put his politics aside to realize a virus doesn't care what you think (about anything) and if it gets to you it could be big trouble.

I hate that thing , I just don't understand how it's better or how anyone uses it. Bleh.

Schools closed here so now newish coworker is trying to pull the sympathy card how it will be too hard on them to work, not my problem figure it out. Honestly rather you just quit anyway. Getting tired of hearing how hard things and trying to ask for special accommodations when others are sacrificing just as much and making it work.

Kind of curious though if our union will get involved though as got an email how our employer is expected to provide all these accommodations and PPE they aren't so , lol. I work the front line basically being in an airport and dealing with not only airport and airline employees but passengers too.
On the plus side it also covers paid time off if things do go south and close. Hoping not because I've got overtime to work.

House overwhelmingly passes the COVID response bill 363-40. Includes free testing (requires insurance companies to cover it without a copay. Federal National Disaster Program would cover the uninsured) and provide sick leave for up to two weeks for those whose employers do not provide paid sick leave.

The legislation includes 14 paid sick days for employees, as well as three months of paid emergency leave throughout the coronavirus crisis. Employers will be reimbursed for some of these costs through tax credits. At GOP insistence, the emergency leave provision will expire in a year. And Republicans were able to insert language exempting smaller businesses from the requirements.

Goes to the Senate on Monday. Trump has supported the bill.
