So boss seems to be considering closing up shop for a bit as thinks maybe we aren't that essential... despite others in the industry where restrictions started not doing so and despite essential government and businesses we service actually calling us up to make sure we still coming

Booooo. Wifey got activated and is gonna be working 12 hour shifts.
word came down from on-high, we are making lists of anyone that has any level of ventilator service experience. i haven't touched one in 10 years (i took care of the Versamed 300's in Afghanistan. those were great little transport vents. too bad GE bought them out), last classes were in the DoD basic course 18 years ago.
Henry Ford Health Systems Detroit had their first death today. Not sure of the age. Wife is about to head into work for the first time in 8 days and she's kinda amped up about this.
Niya got my panicked poke but..
'Neko might be working from home soon; I had to loan him my mikrotik to check the pc they loaned him to see if he could. Yes he can. If he gets the go on that, he's going to order him one and I'll have to get the config on it, but that's that. (Somehow the wireless on that wasn't working right, so since I could..)
Anyway they're changing his sched again next week to more normal but he's going to be home later. AND I managed to get to a local drugstore that's actually MAKING hand sanitizer so I should be good to go on any bus rides now without worrying I'd bring something nasty home.. (Thank goodness for local stores.)
We've already made a batch of hand sanitizer. We just need to get some small spray bottles.
CT has had more than 60 confirmed cases since yesterday
dude
avoid the bus/train if at all possible. touching something that's been sneezed on isn't your only worry. asymptomatic spread is what makes this a fucking pain in the ass, and it hangs around in the air for at least a couple of hours.
Malli; I'd be more worried if the city buses were crowded. They are not. Before this emergency, I think I only saw 5 people max on those little buses before? (These are cutaways aka. vanbuses) But this means that wild horses can't get me to transfer to Cobb LINC and MARTA, where I'd REALLY be at risk. All the cases so far near us have been in the Atlanta Metro area.
You can't pay me enough to go into Atlanta at all right now. So I figured, get me a purse bottle of hand sanitizer and I should be fine. (Oh and you should say dudette; I'm a girl last I checked.) Also I highly recommend you check locally owned drugstores for things like hand sanitizer, cough stuff and anything antinfective. They had it, and I was glad to be able to pick sis up a tube of generic neosporin too. (She uses that a lot; when you got lymphedema, one little cut on the leg where you got it and if you don't clean that real good, it could get you in the hospital, which she really wants to avoid..)
Anyway I don't think Douglasville is going to extend the city bus routes until the emergency is over. Inconvenient but oh well, I'll see if we can lobby for them tho once this mess ends, I'd love to have a closer stop than 5 miles away.
people get hung on on the droplet/vs airborne and it's really a pretty arbitrary distinction here. guys, it hangs out, in the air, for up to three hours. you can transmit it while showing no symptoms. you have no idea who was on that bus in the three hours before you. it can live for a disturbingly long time on surfaces. no one is going in and sanitizing the seats and rails every time someone new gets on or off, and it's probably not really feasible to.
you could not pay me to get on a bus or train right now, regardless of where it is. our numbers are low because no one's been tested until just recently. NY dropped another 1k+ overnight, because they're testing people now.
yeah i'd hard pass on that offer.
I can understand avoiding buses/public transit if they are busy, but many a time when I rode them before, I'm serious; I was the only person on the bus other than the driver. Most people in Douglasville DRIVE, mainly because these things have not been a thing very long (less than a year). I'm one of the few that doesn't, due to some messes. (And I hope to rectify that eventually.) (Also I mean ConnectDouglas.)
That's why I feel safe, but I just felt it was a good idea to try to protect myself as much as feasible; I don't think I could find surgical masks around here or I'd buy some (And try to set a new fashion, lol.). It's going on MARTA that'd be dangerous, obliviously. MARTA tends to be crowded from past experience, so I'm not going to Atlanta at all, just to Biolife to donate plasma, and maybe some minor shopping; There's only so much you can carry home that way anyway. Most of our grocery shopping's going to be Instacart and Walmart Delivery for the duration.
i wish you good fortune in the wars to come.
Thank you Mali. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some surgical masks. I just do NOT want to bring any thing home other than what I went after considering both sis and my other brother (not neko) have 'mune problems (And I consider the cancer that that brother has to be 'mune problems) so I figure, a little ordinary care and I should be fine. And so should my siblings.
Anyway news here; we've had a few more deaths in the state, but so far NO cases in Douglas County or I'd proly of heard of it already.
https://www.msn.com/en-sg/news/world...on/ar-BB11m7SAA new medical study on the coronavirus in China found that blood type A patients were more susceptible to the infection and tended to develop more severe symptoms, while patients with blood type O seemed more resistant to the disease.
Very skeptical about this because of how much woo there is in Asia regarding blood type (it's basically their version of astrology) but who knows?
