That's 100% true, Qal, but these stories never explain how humans advanced to that level of technological superiority to other races while being xenophobic. I know that Star Wars can get a pass in this scenerio as the Empire does not predate the beginning of the story's canon, so we can absolutley attribute the Empire's xenophobic reign to the desires of its leadership (IE Sheen Palpatine and co.), but other space stories don't do anywhere near enough of a job to explain how humanity is suddenly just on top of the universe when we can't stop shivving ourselves long enough to get off this rock in the first place.
Lookin' at you, Mass Effect.
As for the Empire being suddenly nice to blacks and asians in modern interpretations, my headcanon just chalks it up to being a meritocracy where the most ruthless and efficient climb up the ranks, especially after the empire lost so many military members when all those star destroyers were blown to shreds (what is it, something like 27k people per star destroyer?), but yes, we know its the fucking diversity card being played.
I think if they didn't play it at this point, it'd be too hard to have any sympathy for anyone serving the empire, or still loyal to it. If its just a bunch of faceless, soulless white men running everything and being EEEEVIIILLLLL, it's way, WAY too easy to paint it as just "Empire bad and everyone under it is bad", where the reality is that lots of people serve it loyally for many reasons, be it for personal comfortable living, military family loyalty or a genuine belief that the empire is what's best for the galaxy.
Edit: The rebel side is majority aliens, actually, which is a nice touch, considering NONE of them would be offered any meaningful position within the Empire, with a few surprises sprinkled in. I'd get used to seeing the diversity card being played in everything from now on that ain't Rome, Total War or literally made by an European or Asian company.
Yeah this was the reason when forming the Separatists during the Clone Wars it was predominantly powerful or influential non-human species being put at the forefront. It gave Palpatine and the Empire an excuse to subjugate all those species as they "rebelled" against the Republic and couldn't be trusted.
Finally managed to play some single player and an online match.
I’m hooked, now I want to buy a VR headset for my PC lol
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yea, im thinking about getting a VR headset, but idk whats good etc.
Also, I cant play online...I have the unable-to-connect bug
Good god the cockpit takes up so much damn screen real estate in regular desktop gameplay compared to VR. One thing I'm starting to wish the game had was more tweaks for the sensitivity for flightstick users. I can't really mess with the acceleration curves beyond very basics.
Anyhow, pic comparison of the desktop vs. VR FoV. The entire ring of the front window of this TIE Interceptor is comfortably in view in VR (by which I mean that's the extent you can see without moving your eye. The hands below you wouldn't notice as easily otherwise unless they're animating), and the 3d stereo separation makes it easier to ignore the cockpit and see what's going on in space behind it. Makes it far easier to track moving targets nearby without relying as hard on the targeting system painting an icon overtop. Another brownie point for the game allowing you to swap between the two modes without rebooting the game. That is extremely rare in VR-supported games for....some reason.

And if this ends up being the case, best to wait and see how the Oculus Quest 2's PC Link stuff looks when the 90hz update hits for it post-launch. My main curiosity is whether the Link's compression artifacts would be offset by it having a higher resolution over my Rift CV1 in terms of being an overall net gain for my current setup.
Unrelated to that, but anyone else been having sizable load times? I assumed from earlier play sessions that a lot of it was due to the story content I was working on, but even in multiplayer I'm sitting in there a good solid two minutes at times for....a space battle with 10 models at most and a static environment to appear.
Ranking system seems to be totally broken. Players are finishing placement matches with 10/10 wins only to end up in the lowest tier. Devs have acknowledged the bug but no eta on a fix.
Still was able to beat the story campaign on veteran. Ngl I didn't even notice the diversity and inclusion element to the story mode.

Oculus Rift S for $299 on Amazon ($100 off).
How is that compared to the Steam one?
I don't know anything about VR. Proth recommended Oculus and I saw it was on sale. Vive is Steam's VR and it starts at $900.
Just a warning if you care but Oculus has forced Facebook integration now
If you're going to buy any Oculus device with the Facebook-requirements, it may as well be their flagship Quest 2 which runs that same price. Rift-S is getting discontinued this coming Spring. I don't think they ever fixed the problem with Rift-S mics eventually going to shit.
I need to get back to the online on this at some point since it looks like they nerfed the heck out of TIE Bomber abuse.
Can greenlight the Quest 2 as long as you don't mind getting Zucked (face it, right now, even without a quest 2, you are getting Zucked). 90hz is great and they may bump it up to 120 later on too.
