This is the crazy thing... you could cut the DOD's budget by hundreds of billions, and STILL GIVE THE TROOPS PAY RAISES. I'd honestly just love to see a rule that says the DOD can not create any new contracts or renew any expiring ones for 5 years.

It's easier to justify the exorbitant amount of spending because people have such a hero worship affinity when it comes to the military and also a weird obsession with violence and death and those in charge know it. It is a monster that western imperialism has created starting back in the 60s. Guess you can only kill a people while occupying their homelands for so long before they hate you. Western imperialism has done the regions few favors but Wahhabist and Salafist ideologies long predate the 1960s and in Afghanistan's case it was Soviet, not Western, imperialism that deeply radicalized the nation.

Yeah I'm torn, there is only one way to fix that place, and I'm all about it, but it involves the murder of 100 million people. Anything less does.not.work. I'm fine if society doesn't want to commit genocide, I get it. THATS ALOT OF DAMAGE! I mean... how do you fix this? How do you teach a 50 year old to learn, when he dropped out of high school? How do you express high functioning analytical capabilities to prevent him from being subverted by individuals whos best interests are in keeping him dumb and un-educated.
