In regards to Clouds future visioning, fairly sure Seph been feeding it to him to guide him to that crossroads. Guessing whatever he's planning he needed Cloud to break fate .

I always had a hard time really getting into FF7’s story. It just doesn’t have that cohesive of a narrative. Sephiroth and Jenova are not that interesting to me. Sephiroth just went evil just because. And Jenova is an evil alien. And Cloud just stumbles upon everything he needs in the narrative as well.

At the end of the day, it just becomes a typical good vs evil fight. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross as a whole has an extremely similar story (alien coming down to the planet, etc). Chrono Cross is a game a lot of people didn’t like (especially if they liked Chrono Trigger) but I’d argue Chrono Cross does everything FF7 tries to do (in terms of theme) but better.

In FF7, you have dudes just randomly killing people and animals without care or concern. In Chrono Cross, it’s actually a plot point and you aren’t actually supposed to beat the final boss that way.

In FF7, the narrative is fed to you. In Chrono Cross, you have to figure out a lot of things yourself.

Chrono Cross is kind of a janky game (I love the story but the combat and RPG mechanics aren’t the greatest to be fair) but it’s a game that I always just kept thinking about and I started to appreciate more and more as time passed by.

I don’t know what this time travel plot in FF7 means but if it means trying to make the story better or interesting, then they can go for it. I’m just saying that because I’ve always found the original FF7’s story to be more of a theme park of fun characters and events rather than a cohesive narrative.

The problem I have with FF7 is a problem I have with a lot of stories in general. It’s the characters (good guys) get handed everything they need to defeat the bad guys. That’s why I appreciate Chrono Cross because the game doesn’t directly tell you what to do to get the true ending, and if you deal with the final boss like any other JRPG, you get the bad ending.

    Spoiler: show

Aerith is that example. She’s the key to saving the planet, etc, and it’s something that she is just born with (Holy Materia which she is the only one that has and that she can only use). She’s important just because. Not only that, I also found (especially what they added in the remake), “You shouldn’t fall in love with me” extremely corny and hamfisted.

Aerith is important because she is just born important. I‘ve always found that really lazy, and it’s a common anime trope that people fall for time after time again.

Now, maybe in the new timeline, Aerith develops as a better character instead of just merely as a “plot device waifu bait” character that’s so common in so many Japanese media (and something that always brings down the story for me).

Not only that but when Aerith dies, everyone mourns her, holds parades, etc. She dies a perfect death and for the perfect cause, and is mourned the perfect way, etc. Everything about her is perfect “except” without her really doing anything besides being born special.

Don’t get me wrong as I do like her “except” for that fact. Anytime a character becomes a walking plot device like that, it just brings down the story. I can still like the character separately though, so I do find Aerith to be a fun character (that’s why she and her Cloud are my favorites in FF7) but I just don’t think her death and her “I’m born as important” importance to be plot to be interesting.

I’m not really sure what the time travel plot or the characters being in an alternative timeline means but I think there is a chance to make the story more interesting with the characters you know. Again, I have a hard time finding Jenova or Sephiroth as interesting villains. Maybe they can do something interesting. I know a lot of people wanted the OG remade with the same OG story. I don’t know how SE will handle this at all.

I guess we’ll have to see.

Man the Hell House fight in hard mode is ballin. Took me a bit to learn the gimmick, but, shutting it down and melting the thing feels great.

Did anyone else p much one shot the whole game? I think I died twice, once because I was AFK after a cutscene and the other because I was real stoned and took like 30 hits from Whisper Bahamut before realizing what was going on.

It's the exact same as in normal except

    A) you already know what to do
    B) tonberries and steam cleaners

Normal mode, maybe a couple game overs. Most bosses could easily be recovered when things go south.

Didn't even really learn the fight until hard mode. I had a bad materia setup and was too stubborn to just restart and setup.

Yeah same for me. Normal took me like 30 minutes and used most of my items. I think I had one spell set.

Hard (once I was lv50) was actually much easier.

Same here. Just one death from Leviathan and that was a straight up one shot from its Tidal Wave move lol. And I might have been under leveled (24), but I went back in with Manaward and beat it.

And so far on Hard (ch 17) it hasn't been bad either. I actually have died more on regular encounters than bosses on Hard.

Yeah, even on normal I would get corner blocked sometimes because of the viewing angle and end up having to burn a ton of resources to win trash pack fights. Auto-cure is kinda cheap for that too.

Prayer is garbage idk why people keep advocating for it. 2500 per person for 2 ATB at MAX materia vs. 8500 per person for 9 mp. Just put a max heal materia on every person and put 2-3 MP materia on the person with magnify. Arise for when that fails. Even just arising someone for 14mp is better than prayer tbh.

Edit: speaking of things that shouldn't be used...

Breech / Dispel are 2 ATB each lmfao. Not only do you never need them, but if you DID need them, they're 2 fucking ATB lmao. So fucking stupid. And has anyone actually ever used a warding materia?

I could've maybe made more use of these, but the only place I used it pretty much ever was magnify manaward for normal bahamut. For the hard bahamut I just ate it and let reprieve + curaga save me (mainly because I didn't look it up beforehand so I didn't know I'd be fighting bahamut or I prob would've brought it).

as much as I hate the whipsers plot device its not like they technically haven't been there, and by some stretch of the imagination could have been present but whatever decisions didn't have them appear.

doesn't seem you can time stamp so here's a link to it.

I'm not sure where you're getting whispers from that.

    7 seconds till the end.

Initial thought of that was saving zack...however that's sorta of how long it took for OG aerith to die. I wonder if those memories flooding in caused him to change that from a different timeline. Because we have the original timeline, remake timeline, and now a splintered timeline of the remake continuity. Things can still happen post-midgar but obvious changes inserted will have to happen to keep it fresh and familiar in some way. We could still have yuffie appear and take our shit besides our basic weapon and materia. This is just my thoughts but what if og aerith tried to change her death in another time and it sent a ripple effect across time and space? It would make sense why the whispers are so focused on aerith specifically. She knows too much and can easily derail everything from knowing future events.

    just my thoughts, fuck grammar
