Was Barret's "death" really meant to be shocking? The Whispers start healing him almost right away, so I never even felt anything close to shock. I think to further AoE's point, it was simply a scene to show the type of power the Whispers have. Unless I'm remembering wrong, they hadn't shown that the Whispers can straight up revive/heal people, so it's not a completely useless scene. Not saying it's great writing, but it shows something at least.

But like I said in earlier post, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even show Zack ever again and simply used that scene to show that shit is gonna be somewhat different from here on out cause "fate" is dead.

Barret's death didn't shock me at all simply because of knowing of the original plot. Of course events after that suggest a change to the original plot but you wouldn't know that at the point he "died". To a new player who never played the original game then Barret's death was probably a shock.

It was retarded to have such a thing in a trailer to begin with. I had to avoid that trailer because the first thing I heard after its release was "avoid this trailer!". Square Enix like to give way too much away in their game trailers. The January trailer already had too many spoilers.

Watching any trailer you should be prepared to see some part of the ending as that is the big flashy selling moment. This is nothing new it's pretty much the standard, bitching about it now is like bitching to a McDonalds employee they got your order wrong, they don't care.

I think Barret's death was in the game as an easter egg because he was suppose to die in the original but they decided it was too insensitive, they then decided Aerith should die. Interesting fact, Aerith was supposed to be Clouds childhood friend but it was changed since they wanted her to die and because of that they felt they needed to add another female character. Tifa was then created by using some assets from Yuffie and some personality from Aerith. Yuffie was supposed to be a bounty hunter and her stats/fighting style was determined on what bounty listings you look at in Midgar one being a martial artist. These were then changed to be the turtle paradise posters.

The game is great until chapter 17 and the whole whispers shit, for me it went downhill fast. The only thing I really wanted to see story wise was them to flesh out some characters better namely Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth as they are written as pure shit.

Or or or... and bear with me... they don't do any of that because the story is already there and loved and all that stuff isn't needed to make the story better.

Considering they already changed some stuff, that would end up with what I described in option 2. Things en route to the end might (and did) play out a little different, but in the end the major plot points are still going to happen since you can't change fate.

Another story that could play out in option 2 is that they could also start to realize they entered another timeline ("wtf, Stamp doesn't look like that") and by other events that would prove that even more than the image of a dog, figure out Sephiroth (and Aerith who wants to live?) is pushing them towards a worse future and try to fix that and find out the OG timeline was the best. Aerith could be convinced to sacrifice herself probably. Not as much impact as her getting killed, but in this day and age of gaming seeing a main character die isn't that special, sacrifice might be?

The ending is amazing, but everything up to that is bad to average but at least the story picks up in a good way near the end. But there's a lot of stupid shit that happens before that lol

wtf this makes ZERO sense. the whole reason theyre even fighting fate is to save aerith. if they didnt give two flying fucks about saving her, they'd just let fate unwind as normal cause they...won? literally everything is fine except aerith dies, even 500 years into the future shit is fine.

To a lesser extent theyre fighting to save as many people as possible from returning to the planet because of sephiroths plan, but really theyre going on this crazy ride to 1. save the planet like they always did, and 2. to save aerith this time.

This entire ending rewrite is literally to just save aerith, and give fans of the original a new plot to enjoy in the remake instead of just a "remaster" of the game.

Save your sanity and just watch story videos on youtube. the gameplay isnt worth drudging through that game for the plot.
