Um what? You think there's a love triangle, I'm saying that there isn't despite me believing that there was until my recent replay of the game. Aerith was not in love with Cloud and vice versa. I already explained from both sides that in the original it was never true. No matter what choices you make that determines who you date it does not change the Mideel incident where Cloud reveals that it was always Tifa and that scene remains the same no matter what choices you made before. This is also one of those moments that I mentioned earler about the game having wtf moments. If you have low affection for Tifa the Mideel scene is still the same but then Cloud doesn't have sex with Tifa. This isn't that important though so on one thing I can agree to move on from this.

I don't know about A+ but it is a great game for sure. I think the major issues people have with the game is the last 2 chapters and the battle system. The last 2 chapters I think people are still trying to absorb it. The battle system I see being 50/50. I am pretty sure a bunch of people were like oh this is run in and hack everything in your way while your teammates back you up and I'll admit that I was one of these people. Then you realize your teammates don't do shit until you tell them to and you're getting curb stomped everywhere. I was almost going to drop this game because of it but then I decided to change my approach, be patient, observing enemies moves, cripple and exploit weaknesses and Assess everything which is hilarious as the game straight up says to always do that. Since then the battle system started to skyrocket in enjoyment for me. The Materia system is still great but the weapon system made me jizz. Honestly I don't see anyone hating on this game it's pretty top notch but it does have issues just like every game.

They did that so it could mirror the original game without being so stiff. In the original game you had to issue commands to everyone. Here it is the same deal but they do some things as to not appear like they are awaiting a command. At least that is how I looked at it.

I'm curious to know what all the armchar devs think is the best battle system ever created that is 10/10? Would be interested to look at a video of what is considered the pinnacle of gaming battle systems.

Its basically a watered down dragon age inquistion combat system, without the adjustable ai, but IMO it works and for me its one of the best Final Fantasy combat systems that bridges the old and new. Its def not perfect. Believe it not I still like my turn based combat for RPGs

Yea it's like winning a gold medal at the special olympics when compared to something like FFXV. Lots of flaws here that are hopefully ironed out in part 2

A basic comand for party members to retreat or engage or simple comands for non controlled members to guard or attack would do wonders to the frustration lol. Add some more AI materia to the game that will do more things like how auto cure works.

Yeah when I got auto cure I was like "ok this could work, let's have some more"

But fucking no that's the only fucking one you get unless you count that one that makes them cast a spell when you cast one of the same element

Would that make the game too easy though? This is something that made people issue commands to party members. If you just let them be and they performed really well, there wouldn't be much incentive to swap to them or issue commands.

At that point it becomes more about party customization and coordinating your build as a whole unit which can provide satisfaction in and of itself. There was no challenge to watching my party beat Yiazmat up for hours on their own but it was satisfying as fuck to know that I created that loop. The beauty of gambits was that the whole system was completely customization. You could either set up your team as a lean mean autofarming machine or you could turn them off entirely and control each party member on your own. FF7R doesn't offer that at all which also falling short of making the combat interesting enough to make me want to play it actively.

A few things I'd want to see change in that regard would be

    A) Dodge roll needs to be either replaced with Parry by default or completely overhauled to actually do something
    B) The stagger system needs to be addressed on bosses. Only a couple of bosses, mostly duels like Rufus, Sephiroth, or standout exceptions like Hell House, benefited from having the stagger gauge at all. Too many bosses ignore it entirely or reset its progress because your chip damage whittled it down to a threshold before the bar even fills.
    C) Some spells are dumb. Blizzard and Aero are stupid and should be better. All of the enemy skills are also trash and I'm hoping part 2 adds a fuckload more of them.
    D) The weaponskill system isn't the worst but it could be better. Increase the impact of having them. Give me a limited selection of them at a time but make their effects more variable than just "damage in a different way". Aerith's were the most interesting in this regard and I found myself using almost every single one of her skills when I could because they were interesting and varied.

Certainly wouldn't make it perfect but it'd be a nice step forward.

The existence of only one All/Magnify materia is the most frustrating shit.

Idk if others played like this, but I basically did a rotation on characters. Spam up their ATB, use w/e ability I wanted them to use, then rotate while they were in the animation to the next character.

Only under certain circumstances would I stick to one (ie. If I needed Barret for ranged), but that was basically what I did. And as someone said, I really liked that as a system because it felt very much like a more action version of old turn-based. So I didn't end up having the gripes about it the way I am seeing others have.

Regarding E Skill, I actually really liked using the Ice Aura. Plus like I mentioned before, Bad Breath can be used to interrupt annoying skills if the enemy doesn't resist sleep

I liked the battle system too. It sounds like it just depends on people's play style.

I had no issues with Dodge. After quickly seeing there are no iframes, I used it for positioning instead. Some moves you can still dodge, though, as I said before in an earlier post.

Blizzard and Aero suck when compared to Fire and Lightning for sure, but I never had issues with them personally. I would always lure the enemy towards the non-casting character before starting the cast. Fights like the Rude fight on Hard are a good example of this tactic. Set down Arcane Ward, switch to Cloud just long enough to have Rude run towards him, then switch to Aerith and immediately cast Aeroga x2.

As for E Skill, I only used Bad Breath and that absorb aura move, but hey, 2/4 isn't bad lol. More moves would be appreciated.

Weaponskills wise, Cloud and Aerith's stuck out for me. They both have weaponskills that are useful for many situations. Barret I will admit, I didn't play a whole lot. He was my least favorite since he seemed a bit slower. For him I just stuck to Focused Shot and Maximum Fury. It got the job done and I never had issues with him, though. Tifa is in between when it comes to weaponskill variety, but I had my Tifa set up to feed everyone else ATB like crazy with ATB Assist and non-stop Focused Strike spam. Then when stagger came, I would hit Rise and Fall/Overwhelm > Starshower > Divekick for big damage while commanding the rest of the part through her. I didn't use anything else except that. Things pretty much melted this way, except for maybe Erigor cause he just sucks.

Finished this game yesterday and I agree it is an A+ game despite some minor flaws.

First of all this is as good as a remake can get. They put great effort in creating something new as they were well aware that an identical story with better graphics would disappoint everyone. Music was top notch, Uematsu's style blended so fine with Hamauzu's modern approach.

Battle system was very fluid but the game was a bit easy unfortunately. This is a problem with games I've been playing recently. Only died twice in final bike scene and once against multiple rats (lol, I know). I would prefer a bit more challenge that'd make me use strategic aspects of it. In RPG's I tend to do the side quests along the play through as they show up so I think this overpowers my characters a bit.

The story was enjoyable, if not memorable. I am really wondering how they are going to pull the Aerith thing off. Her death was an important and integral part in the original VII's story, and you don't alter things that much just because fans are asking for it. Don't get me wrong, I am one of those people who attempted to get the impossible score at Gold Saucer to get the "Mutrasame Blade" (Not Masamune or Murasame or Muramasa) of Zack to revive her 20 something years ago (this was actually a listed secret in a GameFAQs published FAQ) but yeah, you understand what I am saying.

Finished the game on Saturday. Didn't really like the ending after beating it, but everything besides that was amazing for me. After giving it some thought after beating it, I really like what they're doing. I didn't want a 1:1 remake, and was fine with changes. As long as they keep the same quality of this game for the remaining parts, I'll be extremely happy. Just hope it comes out in reasonable amount of time.

Really love how they handled each character and had them show so much more personality. Fucking loved Red and Barret's dialogue.

Best line in the whole game.

Gameplay was fine, actually loved the hybrid. The lockon/camera system is kind of meh. Would have preferred if the camera followed the enemy you're locked onto it. Hate how limits can miss, that shit is retarded. Whenever you stagger a boss, it almost always leads into a cutscene transition that resets the bar, which was lol. All the "slow" or forced walking sections get really annoying, really quick. Lack of explorability at times as well, such as when you're in the tunnels going to the sector 5 reactor. Game felt a little too handholdy I guess. Would prefer to fuckup and go wrong direction for long time than be told to turn the fuck around and climb the stairs.

Tifa is the most fun to play.
    Ending was cool.
Game should have more "skippable" scenes. Replaying chapters for the dresses is long as shit, partially because of how they limit your movement so much. Having to control the mechanical hands on every chapter reset is :'(
