People are starting to translate the Ultimania.

The three whisper boss fight at the end is confirmed to be the Advent Children characters. But it is not clear if this is meant to be significant to the story or just an Easter egg.

Kitase & Nomura say future games will largely be a retelling of the FF7 we already know with a few new things added but it won’t be drastically different. They want to make sure a lot of the same locations are visited and scenes take place for fans of the original. This does seem very at odds with how the ending of the Remake presented itself.

Nomura says he wants to get the next installment out ASAP. He says they do not know how many games it will take to finish the story. Says development time will take longer for a larger game and they have looked into the possibility of releasing shorter games in order to get the next release out in a timely manner.

Kitase and Nomura note the differences in Stamp were very intentional and will become very important to the story.

The English versions of Ultimania will not be out for a few months so this is all based on people on Twitter translating so take it for what it’s worth.

Speaking of summons, I wonder if in part 2 they'll let you keep say, Chocobo & Mog and Ifrit, plus any DLC, and then say Chadley's virtual summon materia broke down or something. They could keep adding new permanent summon materia to each game that way and still have Chadley show up to give you virtual access to ones that will be temporary for the game.

I just don't want to lose the CPR mini game.

If you scan, then fail the fight, you still get credit for scanning him.

I thought scans didn’t keep if you failed, at least that’s what happened on every normal fight I did.

Am I right thinking you have to do chapter 9 4 times if you did all quests on normal mode? Second run to get second set of dresses with the other quest line, third time to get third set of dresses with neither quest line and a fourth time to get the manuscript from the quest line you completed in normal mode? Seems you could have cut this to three runs if you skipped the quests on normal mode but no one does that.

I wouldn't normally care about things like manuscripts but it's the only one I don't have.

I just had to go back and get that one because I too care about manuscripts. Hell House Hard is miles easier with the superboss accessory.

Anyway, more ending thoughts:

The more I watch it the more I think that Sephiroth faked the entire last fight. It's the most Advent Children-y scene in the game with the building parts flying everywhere and the huge attacks coming from sword swings, the sky darkening and Meteor erupting and I think we're meant to think that this is some weird piece of space beyond time where all this is possible but shortly before this Assessing Jenova Dreamweaver reveals she can induce powerful hallucinations. There are moments during the fight where it cuts to the image of Meteor and it distorts, like a TV image suddenly going fuzzy. I don't think it would particularly mean anything in terms of the story if true except to illustrate later how Sephiroth is capable of fucking with their minds to a ridiculous degree and we can't necessarily trust anything we see.

I also wonder what Rufus did? Only people who've been touched by the Whispers are supposed to be able to see them right? Or maybe if you've been touched by someone else who is touching them, like Aerith and Cloud in their first appearance. But Rufus can see them flying through the Shinra building and Tseng can't. Especially weird because Rufus's timeline seems to be moving exactly as we remember so when would he have encountered a Whisper? Or has he interacted with someone who has? Couldn't be Aerith because Tseng couldn't see them, so is Rufus working with Sephiroth?

Also in some wild speculation on my part, I wonder if Sephiroth's goal is to trick you into saving Aerith. From his perspective, he kills Aerith, Aerith returns at the end of the game to destroy Meteor with the Lifestream and stop his plans. But if he interrupts the summoning of Holy without killing her, letting Cloud think he saved her, then she's not there to propel the Lifestream on to empower Holy at the end, Holy fails and Meteor strikes, and Cloud knows that by saving Aerith he doomed the Planet, which is exactly the level of fucking with Cloud this Sephiroth seems to be going for. In the original game Sephiroth didn't care about Cloud at all for most of the game, in this one he's clearly his focus from the start and he's really trying to screw with him. Making him think he's saved Aerith only to find out it means everyone dies now is definitely Sephiroth-level manipulation.

Anyway, gotta beat 6 more chapters on Hard Mode and I'll have that platinum trophy and can put this away.

From what I recall, it wasn't necessarily aerith leading the lifestream against meteor, but aerith using her materia and praying/summoning for the planet to defend itself and the planet had to decide whether to stop meteor and save the life on it, or stop meteor and end/restart the life on the planet cause shinra be fucking the balance.

Either way everything you said is plausible cause pretty much everyone has motivation to change the future cause honestly that wasn't really a happy ending for any party involved lol

Cept maybe Barrett and Yuffie. They got out pretty good
